The Armidale School (TAS) is seeking an outstanding Mathematics educator to lead our dynamic Mathematics Department across the Middle and Senior School.

Head of Department – Mathematics

Ongoing Teaching Position | 5-Year Tenure as Head of Department | Commencing Term 1, 2027
Middle and Senior School | 1.0 FTE (0.2 FTE HOD allocation)

The Armidale School (TAS) is seeking an outstanding Mathematics educator to lead our dynamic Mathematics Department across the Middle and Senior School. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher and emerging or established leader to shape the direction of Mathematics at TAS, lead a committed team and support students and staff to achieve their best. You will work closely with the Director of Teaching and Learning and other Heads of Department to translate the School’s strategic priorities into high-quality teaching, learning and academic outcomes.

As Head of Department, you will provide both strategic and operational leadership to the Mathematics faculty. You will lead curriculum development and review, oversee assessment and the monitoring of student achievement, analyse data to identify opportunities for improvement, and support initiatives that strengthen Mathematics learning across Years 6 to 12. You will also lead faculty meetings, support and develop teaching staff, identify professional learning opportunities and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and professional growth.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative leader who is passionate about Mathematics and committed to creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment. You will bring strong curriculum knowledge, sound educational judgement and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community. Experience teaching Mathematics Extension 2 is preferred but not essential. As a member of the broader TAS teaching community, you will also be actively involved in the life of the School through pastoral care, sport and co-curricular activities.

TAS is a co-educational Anglican boarding and day school of approximately 670 students, including more than 220 boarders, catering for students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. We value academic achievement and individual effort within a comprehensive education that develops character, resilience, initiative and leadership. We are seeking a leader who is supportive of the School’s values of Connection, Courage and Commitment, and who is excited by the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of Mathematics and the professional growth of its teachers.

Applicants must hold relevant teaching qualifications and meet NESA accreditation requirements, together with a current Working With Children Check, prior to commencement.

All applications will be assessed upon receipt.
