About CGGS

Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) is an independent, non-selective Anglican school with a long history of educational excellence. Located in Canberra, CGGS spans three campuses and provides a world-class educational and co-curricular offering in the CYGNUS suite. The School educates approximately 1,300 students and is co-educational from Early Learning to Year 3, then female-focused through to Year 12. The position

The Head of House is responsible for delivering exceptional student care to all students in the House group and wider Senior School community, including fostering positive relationships with student families. This role includes curriculum development of student wellbeing programs and a focus on continually improving student learning outcomes through a strong pastoral program. Heads of House are expected to be proactive and innovative about student wellbeing and to lead a professional team.

  • Lead and manage all elements of the pastoral care program and related administration
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders
  • Collaborate as part of the Senior School middle management team and with the academic management team

Heads of House are key drivers of CGGS’ pastoral strategic direction, responsible for wellbeing curriculum development, tutor-delivered programs, and daily student support within the House.

Qualifications & Requirements

Appropriate academic qualifications and teacher training, with a solid understanding of current educational trends. All teaching staff are expected to participate in the whole life of the School, including pastoral care and co-curricular activities. All staff must:

  • Comply with the Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct and complete regular Child Protection training
  • Promote the safety and wellbeing of children
  • Ensure positive and safe interactions with children and young people
  • Provide adequate care and supervision
  • Act as a positive role model
  • Provide a current Working with Vulnerable People Check (WWVP) prior to commencement
  • Provide an Australian Police Check prior to commencement (international checks if applying from overseas)
