News Corp Australia is seeking a Head of Governance, Risk and FinOps to drive IT governance and risk excellence across the Technology and Digital Data (TDD) department. You will partner with senior IT, finance and delivery teams to implement robust control frameworks and data-driven cost insights.
This senior, matrix-role requires influence without direct reports, shaping governance forums, policy compliance and risk visibility across a complex IT environment.
As the Head of Governance, Risk and FinOps, you will drive strategic value and operational excellence by leading fit-for-purpose IT governance and comprehensive risk management across the Technology and Digital Data (TDD) department.
Partnering directly with senior IT executives, finance, and delivery teams, you will establish robust control frameworks, lead active governance forums, ensure policy compliance, and enhance risk visibility. Additionally, you will optimise departmental spend, equipping decision-makers with transparent, data-driven insights to effectively track, manage, and control TDD-wide costs.
This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role with no direct reports. To be successful, you must be adept at navigating a complex matrix environment, using your influence and strong relationship-building skills to drive outcomes and get things done without relying on direct authority.
Establish and run IT governance frameworks, forums, policies, and decision rights, continuously streamlining processes to ensure practical, outcome-focused controls without unnecessary bureaucracy.
Develop, maintain, and oversee the end-to-end IT risk management framework, covering risk identification, assessment, treatment, monitoring, and timely executive escalation.
Own the IT risk register to ensure material risks, issues, and control gaps are prioritised and managed, while building risk-ownership capability across technology leaders and teams.
Support department-wide IT financial management and provide executive reporting on costs to highlight financial risks, efficiency opportunities, and TDD-wide spend.
Define, track, and deliver key metrics, dashboards, and strategic insights covering governance, risk, and financial performance.
Ensure the effective operation of governance structures, reliable executive reporting, and the implementation of proportionate, business enabling controls.
You are a proven leader with significant experience in IT governance, risk management, and policy frameworks, known for applying pragmatic, outcome-focused controls in fast paced environments.
You are commercially astute with deep knowledge of software licensing, vendor contracts, and managed services, supported by a strong background in large, complex IT environments.
You are a strategic, data-driven, and collaborative professional with a relevant tertiary qualification, combining high integrity and risk awareness with a focus on practical business outcomes.
You are adept at translating complex technical, financial, and risk data into clear, actionable executive insights, dashboards, and reporting.
You are an exceptional communicator and influencer who builds strong stakeholder relationships and easily bridges the gap between technical and non-technical teams at all levels.
You have experience in high level reporting on technology costs for an IT department and understand budgets, forecasts, and cost models.
