Job description

Swan Christian Education Association (SCEA) is seeking a Head of CHARIS Teacher Training School to lead this pioneering initiative in teacher training. This permanent part-time position (0.5 FTE) offers an opportunity to play a key role in creating a new model of teacher education that integrates faith with pedagogy, preparing teachers who are spiritually grounded, academically capable, and classroom-ready.

You will be responsible for establishing strategic partnerships, developing programs, mentoring trainees, and recruiting the founding cohort of teachers. This role is based at SCEA’s Central Office in Midland, starting Term 1, 2026, with the first student intake commencing in Term 1, 2027.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Christ-Centered Educational Leadership: Exemplify Christian leadership and integrate faith with academic rigor in teacher training.
  • Strategic Vision and Operational Effectiveness: Lead the development, implementation, and growth of a Christ-centered initial teacher education program.
  • Program Development & Oversight: Oversee the design and delivery of teacher training programs that meet the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) standards.
  • Mentorship & Support: Provide guidance to mentor teachers and pre-service trainees, ensuring they thrive in their professional journey.
  • Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with tertiary providers, partner schools, and Christian communities to strengthen the program and its reach.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly assess the quality of the training programs and ensure they reflect best practices in both Christian education and teaching standards.

Requirements:

  • Active commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and involvement in a Christian church.
  • Significant experience in educational leadership and mentoring within the Christian education context.
  • Demonstrated capacity to integrate Christian faith into teacher training and practice.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership (or a commitment to completing by December 2027).
  • Registration (or eligibility) with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia TRBWA).
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain.
