Job summary

JAX Tyres & Auto Preston is seeking an experienced Head Mechanic to lead the workshop, deliver high-quality mechanical repairs and drive efficiency. You will mentor apprentices, supervise technicians and ensure work meets safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Light Vehicle Technology.
• 5+ years’ experience as a qualified Motor Mechanic.
• Strong diagnostic and repair skills.
• Experience within automotive and/or tyre industry.
• WHS/workshop safety knowledge.
• Excellent communication, time management and problem solving.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Experience with multiple makes and models.
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicles.
• Carry out servicing, repairs and inspections.
• Perform wheel alignments and tyre services.
• Mentor apprentices and junior staff.
• Maintain a safe, clean workshop.
• Ensure safety and quality standards.
• Communicate effectively with team and customers.
• Carry out roadworthy inspections.
• Assist with tyre fitting and wheel alignments as needed.

About the Role

As Head Mechanic, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality mechanical repairs and servicing while supporting workshop efficiency and mentoring.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicles
• Performing servicing, repairs, and mechanical inspections
• Conducting wheel alignments and tyre-related services where required
• Experience with various Makes and Models, European
• Maintaining a safe and clean workshop environment
• Supporting and mentoring apprentices and junior staff
• Ensuring all work is completed to high safety and quality standards
• Communicating effectively with the team and customers
• Carrying out vehicle inspections (Roadworthy)
• Assist with Tyre Fitting and Wheel Alignments when required

What We’re Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Certificate III in Light Vehicle Technology
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a qualified Motor Mechanic
• Strong automotive diagnostic and repair skills
• Experience within the automotive and/or tyre industry
• A strong understanding of WHS practices and workshop safety
• Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills
• The ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Experience with Multiple makes and models
• A strong work ethic and positive attitude
