Job summary

Crumpler in Melbourne is seeking an experienced bag designer to continue long-standing silhouettes and bring fresh thinking to our studio. You will design and make bags, work with in-house pattern & bag makers, range plan, and experiment with colour, trims, materials and hardware.

You understand style, trends and history; detail is important, and you bring commercial sensibilities. You really like well-made things and enjoy trying something new.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and making bags or similar products.
• Comfortable working physically with materials alongside in-house bag makers.
• Able to range plan and develop bag shapes, styles and silhouettes.
• Strong understanding of style, trends and fashion history.
• Detail-oriented with a mind for craftsmanship and quality.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop bag silhouettes and styles for collections.
• Range plan, experiment with colour, trims, new materials and hardware.
• Collaborate with in-house pattern & bag makers to realise concepts.
• Keep Crumpler's DNA while exploring fresh ideas and fabrics.

Crumpler is a privately owned designer, manufacturer and retailer of bags and outerwear with a small modern factory and studio based in Melbourne's CBD, along with a network of five retail stores around the country. We make a best-selling product in Melbourne that is sold all over the world.

After building up our studio and local production facilities we are keen to include an experienced bag designer to continue improving long standing silhouettes and bring some new thinking and expertise to the company.

We have a legacy of core products we've been making for ever and they continue to set the scene and we've been seeing some recent hits with more experimental products using different fabrics, trims and shapes. Along with some good learnings from around the world and some pretty interesting advances in fabric technology we reckon some fresh ideas keeping our DNA in mind have the potential to shake up the bag world.

You've got experience designing and making bags or something similar

You'd be comfortable physically making stuff and experimenting alongside our in-house pattern & bag makers

Day to day you'd be quite happy range planning, working on bag shapes and styles, experimenting with colour, developing trims, new materials and hardware.
