Job summary

Hudson AU is seeking an experienced HDD operator to join a site crew for underground fibre optic installations across Perth and surrounding areas. You will work with a Crew Lead and other operators to deliver safe, high-quality installations.

Responsibilities include operating HDD gear, locating systems, and installing cables in new subdivisions and areas with existing services. A current MR/HR licence and WA White Card are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years HDD experience in Australian electrical or civil construction.
• Experience with HDD equipment, locating and tracking systems.
• Underground fibre optics or telecoms experience is highly regarded.
• Able to read plans and work safely around existing underground services.
• Current MR or HR driver's licence.
• Hands-on site work with a safety focus.

Job description

We’re looking for an experienced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operator to join a site crew installing underground cables and fibre optic infrastructure across Perth and surrounding areas.

You’ll work alongside a Crew Lead and other operators to deliver safe, quality underground installation works.

Key responsibilities

• Operate HDD equipment, including locating and tracking systems


• Install underground fibre optic cables, conduits and other services


• Work across new subdivisions and established areas with existing underground services


• Read plans and DBYD information to identify and protect existing assets


• Assist with trenching, potholing, cable laying and reinstatement works


• Complete pre-starts, safety documentation and equipment checks

Skills and Experience:

• Minimum 4 years’ relevant HDD experience in the Australian electrical or civil construction industry


• Proven horizontal directional drilling, locating and tracking experience


• Underground fibre optics or telecommunications experience highly regarded


• Ability to read plans and work safely around existing underground services


• Current MR or HR driver’s licence


• Reliable, safety-focused and comfortable with hands‑on site work

Licences and qualifications:

• WA White Card


• First Aid and CPR accreditation recognised in WA


• Relevant machine operating tickets (LB, LE, LL)


• Verified competency in HDD operations


• Relevant industry inductions and access training


• HC/MC licence, traffic management, cable laying or pit and pipe experience advantageous

Casual Loading

Please note for all Australian based contract and temporary roles only, the pay rate is inclusiveofmandatory 25% casual loading. This excludes permanent and fixed term roles.
