Job summary

YMCA Whittlesea is seeking a dynamic Gymnastics Director to lead our floor operations and drive the growth of our gymnastic program in Sydney. You will manage timetables, safety, and equipment while staying hands-on on the floor with beginners.

You will recruit and mentor coaches, plan budgets, and develop strategies to attract more children. A passion for developing people, safeguarding, and creating pathways from basics to competition is essential.

Qualifications

• A recognised gymnastics coaching accreditation.
• Hands-on coaching experience with solid grasp of technique, safety and coaching methods.
• Genuine passion for leading and developing people, including young coaches.
• Experience managing budgets and revenue is desirable but not essential.
• Current Working with Children Check (Employee).
• Current National Police Check refreshed at least every 3 years.
• International police check if lived/worked outside Australia >3 months in last 5 years.
• Current CPR (HLTAID001).

Responsibilities

• Run the floor and manage day-to-day program operations including timetables and safe equipment.
• Build a team by recruiting, training and mentoring coaches, especially new entrants.
• Grow the program by budgeting and creating strategies to attract and retain children.
• Stay hands-on by coaching when needed to model best practice.
• Champion safeguarding and ensure safety standards across all activities.
• Shape the program’s future with a pathway from first cartwheel to competition.

Job description

You'll lead our gymnastics program: the people, the timetable, the numbers and the good vibes. And you'll stay hands-on, because the best Directors are still happiest on the floor with a group of beginners.

• Run the floor. Look after the day-to-day running of the program, from timetables that work for busy families to equipment that is safe and well looked after.
• Build the team. Recruit, train and mentor a team of coaches, many of them in their first job and fitting work around school or uni. Help them go from nervous on day one to confident coaches.
• Grow the program. Plan, budget and come up with smart ways to get more children through the door and keep them coming back.
• Keep coaching. Jump in and coach when the program needs you, and show the team what a great session looks like.
• Keep children safe. Safeguarding is non-negotiable at the Y, and you'll champion it every day.
• Help shape what's next. Have a real say in how we build a pathway from first cartwheel to competition.

Where this could take you

Recreation is the heart of what we do, and that isn't changing. Plenty of children who start with us fall in love with the sport and want to go further, and we want to be able to say "yes". We're growing our competitive arm at Y Leisure City, and the person in this role will help shape it.

What we hope you'll bring (well, we need you to have these!)

• Experience managing budgets and revenue is highly desirable, but not essential.
• Current Working with Children Check (Employee)
• Current National Police Check (no more than 6 months old) and to be renewed every 3 years
• An international police check if you have lived or worked outside Australia for more than 3 months in the last 5 years.
• Current CPR (HLTAID001)
