Job summary

The Y Whittlesea is seeking a Director to lead our gymnastics program, managing people, timetables, and budgets while staying hands-on with beginners on the floor.

You will recruit and mentor coaches, grow the program, ensure safety, and contribute to building a pathway from first cartwheel to competition. This is a full-time role based in Epping, Victoria with a flexible schedule across 7 days.

Qualifications

Recognised gymnastics coaching accreditation.
Hands-on coaching experience with a solid grasp of technique and safety.
Passion for leading and developing people, including young coaches.
Experience with budgeting or revenue management is desirable but not required.
Current Working with Children Check and Police checks in place.

Responsibilities

Run the floor and manage day-to-day program operations.
Build and mentor a team of coaches, including beginners.
Grow the program with planning and budgeting strategies.
Coach when needed and model best practice for sessions.
Champion safeguarding and ensure children’s safety.
Shape next steps and help build a pathway from cartwheel to competition.

Job description

What's the Opportunity?

You'll lead our gymnastics program: the people, the timetable, the numbers and the good vibes. And you'll stay hands‑on, because the best Directors are still happiest on the floor with a group of beginners.

Run the floor. Look after the day‑to‑day running of the program, from timetables that work for busy families to equipment that is safe and well looked after.
Build the team. Recruit, train and mentor a team of coaches, many of them in their first job and fitting work around school or uni. Help them go from nervous on day one to confident coaches.
Grow the program. Plan, budget and come up with smart ways to get more children through the door and keep them coming back.
Keep coaching. Jump in and coach when the program needs you, and show the team what a great session looks like.
Keep children safe. Safeguarding is non‑negotiable at the Y, and you'll champion it every day.
Help shape what's next. Have a real say in how we build a pathway from first cartwheel to competition.

Recreation is the heart of what we do, and that isn't changing. Plenty of children who start with us fall in love with the sport and want to go further, and we want to be able to say "yes". We're growing our competitive arm at Y Leisure City, and the person in this role will help shape it.

What we hope you'll bring (well, we need you to have these!)

A recognised gymnastics coaching accreditation.
Hands‑on coaching experience, with a solid grasp of gymnastics technique, safety and coaching methods.
A genuine passion for leading and developing people, including young coaches who are just finding their feet.
Experience managing budgets and revenue is highly desirable, but not essential.
Current Working with Children Check (Employee)
Current National Police Check (no more than 6 months old) and to be renewed every 3 years
An international police check if you have lived or worked outside Australia for more than 3 months in the last 5 years.
Current Level 2 First Aid (minimum HLTAID003)
Current CPR (HLTAID001)
