  • Learn from the best in a high calibre team with great benefits and professional development

At Raytheon Australia, we're looking for enthusiastic Graduates or Early Career Engineers who want to apply their mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering knowledge while also developing a specialist career as a System Safety Engineer This little known discipline is in high demand throughout industry (especially Defence and Transport), so your future could truly be in your own hands with this rare opportunity.

As a member of this small agile team of Graduates or Early Career Engineers, you will work alongside experienced engineers, contribute to real-world defence programs, learn how some of Australia's most advanced systems are designed to operate safely and reliably, while also receiving some industry best practice training within a 2-3 year development program.

What is System Safety:

As a System Safety Engineer you will make sure complex systems are not only functional, but safe, minimizing the risk to personnel, capability and environment before the problems ever reach the real world. You’ll work closely with engineers, operators, maintainers and other stakeholders to understand how systems are designed, used and supported, identifying potential hazards and influencing safer outcomes through a system lifecycle.

Why This Role Is Different:

  • Reporting to both the System Safety Manager and the Manager of your area of expertise, you will receive training in both disciplines, so if after the end of the development program you decide that system safety isn’t for you, you have continued to gain experience.

  • You will have the opportunity to provide specialist engineering support to multiple engineering programs within Raytheon Australia, potential gaining experience in Air, Sea and Land programs.

  • Interact with industry specialists such as Submariners, Sailors, Pilots, Electronic Warfare Operators

  • Develop practical solutions to complex engineering problems.

  • Learn System Safety principles throughout program life cycles, from initial development through to planning for disposal

  • Opportunity to travel within Australia to attend test and evaluation events of complex systems

  • Ask lots of questions - Some of the best safety engineering starts with: "but what happens if it doesn't work like that?"

What Skills We're Looking For:

Recent graduate (or approaching completion) of a degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with the following key attributes:

  • Like understanding how things work.

  • Enjoy solving complex problems.

  • Have a healthy level of curiosity.

  • Can explain technical concepts clearly.

  • Notice details that others might miss.

  • Are comfortable challenging assumptions respectfully.

  • Think "I should probably check that" more often than the average person.

  • The ability to explain complicated technical concepts without using seventeen PowerPoint slides.
