NEN Consulting is seeking a Graduate Electrical Public Lighting Designer to join our Melbourne CBD team. You’ll be trained in public lighting design, performing drawings, lighting calculations, site audits and AS/NZS 1158 compliance under the Public Lighting Design Manager.

Qualifications

• Cert IV or higher technical qualification, preferably in Electrical Engineering
• Proficient in Excel and the wider Microsoft Office suite
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of CAD (e.g. AutoCAD)
• Familiarity with lighting design software such as DIALux
• Familiarity with project management methodologies, tools or practices
• Awareness of public lighting standards (full training provided)

• Prepare preliminary and construction drawings for public lighting projects
• Learn and apply lighting calculations and modelling using tools such as DIALux
• Support lighting audits and site assessments as your capability develops
• Apply relevant public lighting standards and guidelines across projects
• Research lighting products and technologies to support design decisions
• Help prepare reports, proposals, tools, templates and procedures
• Liaise with clients and contractors under the guidance of senior staff
• Support delivery across multiple projects at once

Graduate Electrical Public Lighting Designer (On-the-Job Training Provided)

We're looking for a Graduate Electrical Public Lighting Designer to join our Melbourne CBD team in NEN's Public Lighting Design (PLD) division. You'll provide technical and project support to our senior designers, contributing to the planning, design, documentation and delivery of public lighting projects for streets, parks and public spaces. From the get-go, we'll train you in public lighting design, covering everything from lighting calculations and modelling to site audits and Australian Standards (AS/NZS 1158) compliance. No prior lighting design experience is needed; this is a genuine on-the-job growth pathway, supported by our Public Lighting Design Manager. You'll report to the Public Lighting Design Line Manager and work alongside clients, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders, building foundational capability in lighting design standards, tools and practices as you go.

Key responsibilities

About you

• Cert IV or higher technical qualification, preferably in Electrical Engineering (or working towards one). You could also be an Electrician who would like to move to an office-based role.

• Some exposure to lighting or network design concepts
• Familiarity with lighting design software such as DIALux
• Familiarity with project management methodologies, tools or practices
