Job summary

The City of Wagga Wagga is seeking an experienced Chief Audit Executive to lead the internal audit function and strengthen governance, risk management and accountability across the organisation.

Reporting to the General Manager and with access to the ARIC Chair, you will deliver a risk-based internal audit program, advise on controls, and drive continuous improvement while collaborating with executives and external auditors.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Auditing, Commerce, Law, Management or another relevant discipline.
• Experience delivering risk-based internal audit programs in local government or large complex organisations.
• Knowledge of contemporary internal auditing methodologies, governance frameworks, risk management and internal controls.
• Ability to independently undertake complex audits, analyse information and develop practical recommendations.
• Understanding NSW local government legislation, regulatory requirements and auditing standards.
• Strong communication, consultation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Understanding IT, cyber security risks, systems controls and data analytics.
• High level of integrity, independence and confidentiality.
• Membership of a relevant professional body, or eligibility to obtain membership.
• Current Class C Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, development and delivery of Council's Strategic Internal Audit Plan.
• Oversee risk-based internal audits including operational, compliance, governance reviews.
• Provide independent advice on governance, risk management and internal controls.
• Coordinate the operation of the ARIC and report on audit recommendations.
• Identify emerging risks and opportunities to strengthen Council's systems and service delivery.
• Build relationships with executives, management and external auditors.
• Promote contemporary internal audit practices and a culture of accountability.
