Ecology Australia Pty Ltd is seeking a practical GIS Analyst to support ecologists with map production, spatial analysis and data management. The role involves building ArcGIS Survey123 and Field Maps solutions for field surveys and ecological monitoring, plus maintaining well-structured spatial datasets.
You will translate project questions into GIS outputs, collaborate with botanists, zoologists and project managers, and deliver outputs for reports and environmental assessments.
Ecology Australia is Victoria’s longest-running ecological consultancy, established in 1978. We provide specialised ecological services across south-eastern Australia and are known for scientifically rigorous work, professional integrity and practical environmental advice. Our work bridges ecological consulting and applied research, with services spanning botany, zoology, aquatic ecology, monitoring and research, environmental approvals and GIS.
We are a friendly team of experienced ecologists and GIS professionals who work collaboratively to achieve positive environmental outcomes for government, corporate and community clients. We offer a flexible, supportive and enriching workplace, with accredited environmental, quality and safety systems and a strong commitment to staff development.
We are seeking a practical and detail-oriented GIS Analyst to support our ecologists with high-quality map production, spatial analysis, spatial dataset and database management, spatial data dashboards and fit-for-purpose mobile data collection solutions. Much of the role involves producing accurate, clear and consistent maps from ecological data, developing practical field-data collection tools and maintaining well-structured spatial datasets.
You will also help design and maintain ArcGIS Survey123 and ArcGIS Field Maps solutions for field surveys and ecological monitoring programs. The role will suit a GIS professional who understands how sound survey design, spatial data structure, quality assurance and reproducible workflows contribute to defensible ecological analysis and long-term monitoring.
Working closely with botanists, zoologists, aquatic ecologists and project managers, you will translate project and research questions into practical spatial outputs. This may include mapping patterns and change through time, preparing data for analysis, undertaking spatial analysis, supporting monitoring design, and presenting spatial results for technical reports, management plans and environmental assessments.
You will combine strong day-to-day GIS production skills with an understanding of how spatial tools are applied in ecology. You will be comfortable collaborating with scientists, clarifying the purpose of a map or dataset, and developing proportionate solutions. You will take pride in accurate work, clear maps and other spatial data outputs that can be confidently used by others.
