Job description

Successful organisations eventually reach a point where operational excellence alone is no longer enough.

EPEC has reached that point.

Having established itself as a trusted partner in high-voltage infrastructure, renewable energy and grid connection projects, the business has grown rapidly and now sits at approximately 200 employees, with significant secured work and a clear growth trajectory ahead. The next chapter is bigger again.
With revenue expected to grow substantially over the coming years, EPEC is seeking an experienced General Manager capable of leading the organisation through its next stage of evolution.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the COO, and based in brand new offices in South Brisbane, this is a genuine executive leadership role focused on strategy, growth and organisational performance.

You will inherit a strong leadership team comprising experienced technical and delivery leaders who understand their disciplines deeply. Your role is not to be the technical expert in the room. It is to set direction, align capability, drive execution and ensure the business is positioned to scale successfully.

This is an organisation that has outgrown many of the systems, structures and processes that served it well in earlier stages of growth. Significant organisational initiatives are already underway. The General Manager will play a critical role in embedding these changes, strengthening accountability and ensuring the business is equipped for the next wave of projects and opportunities.

You will help answer some important questions:

  • What does the business need to become to sustain its trajectory of doubling revenue every year?
  • How should capability, structure and leadership evolve to support growth?
  • How do we maintain delivery performance while scaling?
  • Where should the organisation diversify and invest?
  • What systems, processes and disciplines are required for long-term success?
Key Responsibilities
  • Set strategic direction and divisional priorities
  • Lead organisational growth and business transformation
  • Lead the step-change in operational maturity, resilient systems, processes and governance that scale with the business
  • Develop and lead a high-performing executive team
  • Drive commercial performance, risk management and profitability
  • Ensure future projects are appropriately structured and resourced
  • Build capability to support expansion into new markets and services
  • Contribute to the broader strategic direction of the organisation
About You

You are an accomplished executive who has helped organisations navigate growth, complexity and change.

You may come from infrastructure, energy, construction, EPC, engineering, utilities, industrial services or another project-based environment. Direct experience in high-voltage infrastructure is less important than your ability to lead people, align strategy and build organisational capability.

You will bring:

  • Executive leadership experience in a growing organisation
  • Experience scaling complex project-based businesses
  • Strong commercial, operational and strategic capability
  • A track record of leading organisational change
  • The ability to build trust with experienced technical leaders
  • Strong judgement, pragmatism and executive presence
  • A genuine interest in developing people and teams

Most importantly, you will be comfortable stepping above day-to-day operations to focus on the bigger picture: where the 1business is going, how it gets there and what needs to change along the way.

Why This Role?

Few leadership opportunities offer the combination of growth, complexity and influence available here.

The foundations are strong. The team is capable. The pipeline is substantial.

The challenge now is to build the structure, capability and strategic focus required for the next phase of growth.

For an executive who enjoys shaping organisations, leading through change and building something enduring, this is a rare opportunity to make a genuine mark.
