Arete Executive is seeking a National General Manager for its Industrial Processing division within an ASX 100 group. The role is based on the East Coast and carries full P&L accountability for a national processing network with a revenue footprint exceeding $100M.
You will lead 100+ personnel through two Regional Managers, with HR, safety and IR support, while guiding strategy, capital investment and policy engagement to drive change and growth.
Our client is an ASX 100 essential services business. It serves industry, business and government customers across Australia. It runs a national network of sites with a large frontline, technical and corporate workforce. Within the group, a specialist industrial processing division turns inbound material into commodity-linked products that it sells in Australia and overseas. The business is partway through a significant workforce transformation and is building a culture founded on safety, respect, inclusion and care.
Two related businesses have recently been brought together into one national function, and this role leads it. You will own the full value chain: securing inbound supply through an owned and third-party network, running a national network of processing facilities, and delivering the commercial result on two product lines sold domestically and for export. You will lead a team of 100+ through two Regional Managers, with HR, safety and IR support through the matrix, and you will hold full P&L accountability for a business with $100M+ in revenue.
You will inherit a business in good shape. The team is performing well, most sites are running well, and a capable leadership group has been built over a long period. An optimisation programme backed by significant investment has lifted output by around 30%, and the existing plant has a pathway to a similar gain again. Two sites need attention: one has had operational challenges, and the smallest is working through team shortfalls.
Earnings are strong right now because commodity prices are high, but this is usually a low-margin business. Reinvestment decisions, a product line in long-term decline and a government scheme due for review mean the next leader will need to set direction, not just run operations. That includes taking a large, dispersed team through real change on respect, behaviours and diversity.
You are a senior industrial leader with full P&L accountability who has done this before in a multi-site, process-based operation. Refinery experience is highly advantageous, although strong heavy industrial leaders will be considered. You have led multiple sites with a large, geographically dispersed team, and you have taken that team through significant cultural and operational change. You have led safety visibly in a high-risk environment. You have delivered results in a low-margin business through disciplined cost and commercial management, and you have ideally sold commodity-linked product into domestic or export markets. You have set and executed strategy in an evolving or declining market, made the case for capital investment across multiple assets, and engaged government or industry bodies on regulatory or policy settings. Experience with owned and third-party supply or logistics networks is an advantage, and so is an engineering degree or an MBA.
This is a rare chance to own a national value chain end to end, with full P&L accountability and a mandate to set long-term strategy as well as run operations. You will shape capital investment, the future of the product portfolio and the policy agenda with government, as part of a new leadership team.
You will start from a strong position, with a well-performing team, a funded optimisation programme and room to grow within the existing plant. The group is an ASX 100 business that offers broad career pathways and a full staff benefits program, including novated leasing, salary sacrificing and discounted private health insurance. An East Coast base is preferred, with flexibility for the right candidate, and relocation support is available.
Arete champions diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from candidates of all backgrounds and particularly encourages women to apply.
