Job summary

Profusion Group has exclusively retained a leading specialist investment management firm to appoint a General Manager – Business Operations in Sydney. You will report to the CEO and oversee four core areas including operations, compliance, governance and people leadership.

This senior role requires hands-on direction, cross-functional collaboration with executives and external advisers, and a focus on growth, control frameworks and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in financial services, ideally within asset management, wealth management, investment consulting or a related field.
• Strong understanding of the Australian financial services regulatory environment and AFSL obligations.
• Demonstrated experience in business operations, project management and people leadership.
• A hands-on, ownership-oriented approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and drive matters through to completion.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and sound commercial judgement.
• Ability to operate effectively across both high-level business matters and detailed operational issues.
• Experience working with senior executives, Boards and external professional advisers.
• Proficiency with BI tools such as PowerBI, M365, AI and data visualisation.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operational workflows, maintain internal processes, controls and procedures, review external communications and coordinate service providers across data, IT, marketing, legal and compliance.
• Coordinate regulatory obligations as an AFSL holder, maintain internal policies and procedures and support governance reporting.
• Lead operational improvement projects, drive system and process enhancements to completion, and manage campaigns with external specialists.
• HR management of a team of 12, including goals, KPIs, development, performance and recruitment when required.

Profusion Group has been exclusively retained by a leading specialist investment management firm to appoint a General Manager – Business Operations into their growing Sydney-based team.

About Our Client

Our client is a specialist investment management and asset consulting firm, responsible for multi-billion dollar capital across multiple asset classes, including direct equities. Operating across offices in Sydney and Perth, the business services client firms across Australia and is widely regarded for the depth of expertise across its team of highly experienced investment professionals.

As the business continues to grow, Our client is seeking a commercially capable and operationally experienced senior leader to oversee the day-to-day running of the firm and work closely with the CEO and Board across a broad range of operational, compliance, people and business improvement activities.

About the Role

This is a broad, senior and hands-on role that will suit an experienced financial services professional who is equally comfortable operating at a strategic level and getting into the detail. Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Manager – Business Operations will carry significant responsibility across four core areas:

Business Operations - Oversee day-to-day operational workflows, maintain internal processes, controls and procedures, review key external communications, and manage and coordinate external service providers across data, IT, marketing, legal and compliance.

Compliance & Governance -Coordinate The business's ongoing regulatory and compliance obligations as an AFSL holder, maintain internal policies and procedures in line with regulatory change, and support the CEO and Board with corporate governance, risk and compliance reporting.

Project Management & Business Improvement -Lead and coordinate operational enhancement and business improvement projects, identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and controls, and drive initiatives through to completion. This includes coordinating selected business initiatives such as marketing and PR campaigns in conjunction with external specialists.

People & HR-HR management of The business's team of 12 staff, including supporting the effective allocation of responsibilities, employee goal setting, KPIs, staff development, performance management and recruitment when required.

About You

The successful candidate will bring:

• Significant experience in financial services, ideally within asset management, wealth management, investment consulting or a related field
