Job summary

Blue Hills Garden & Property Maintenance is seeking a gardener to join a growing, owner-led team in the Pakenham area. You’ll start with learning our standards and equipment, then gain more independence and responsibility.

The role offers a pathway from gardener to future leadership as the business grows. Perks include part-time hours (20–30 per week), paid travel between properties, supplied equipment and uniform, and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience with mowing, edging, hedging, pruning and general garden maintenance.

We're looking for a gardener who is willing to meet every morning in Pakenham, who wants more than somewhere to turn up, mow lawns and go home.

You'll work alongside Steve, the owner of Blue Hills, maintaining residential and commercial properties across Pakenham to Braeside through to Hastings.

At first, you'll learn how we operate our standards, our clients, our equipment and the way we approach a property.

Then we'll start giving you more. More independence. More responsibility. More say. Eventually, for the right person, another team member to lead.

We're growing Blue Hills, and we're looking for someone who wants to grow with it.

Gardener

The Ownership

We don't want someone who only sees the task written on the job. We want you to notice the hedge that needs attention. See the branch that could become a problem. Talk to the client. Ask questions. Eventually be able to look at a property and know what needs to happen without us standing beside you. That's where this role starts becoming something bigger.

Where this can go

We're not advertising a management position disguised as a gardening job.

You'll need to earn the responsibility.

But we're deliberately looking for someone who could become one of the people who helps us lead Blue Hills as we grow.

The pathway looks something like:

Gardener → Crew Lead → Crew Team Leader → Future Leadership & Operations Opportunities

There's no automatic promotion because you've been here for twelve months.

If you demonstrate the capability, reliability, communication and leadership to take on more, we'll give you the opportunity to do it.

Who we are

Blue Hills Garden & Property Maintenance is a husband-and-wife owned business that has been looking after properties across Pakenham to Braeside through to Hastings for nearly 10 years.

Steve leads the field and technical side of the business. Ashlea leads much of the operations, administration, client experience and business development.

Now we're building the next stage and we don't want to build a business where people are treated as another pair of hands.

You don't need to know everything about gardening. But we'd love you to already have some experience with mowing, edging, hedging, pruning and general garden maintenance.

You'll also need a current Australian driver's licence, Australian working rights and the ability to comfortably undertake physical outdoor work.

What you get

$30–$38 per hour + super and leave entitlements.
Your starting rate will reflect the capability and experience you bring.

Permanent part-time, 20-30 hours per week.
Monday to Friday, with the opportunity for additional hours as Blue Hills grows.

Paid travel between properties.
You're paid while travelling between client jobs.

Equipment and uniform are supplied.

You'll work closely with Steve initially and we'll invest time in teaching you our systems, standards and approach.
