Job summary

Archer Daniels Midland Company is seeking an experienced Regional Functional Safety Engineer to lead and strengthen our Functional Safety program across multiple facilities in the region. • Experience across FS lifecycle: SRS development, SIL verification, MOC, incident investigations.

• Lead the implementation and ongoing development of the Functional Safety program across the region, coordinating site activities and resources.
• Sustain the Functional Safety Lifecycle with robust processes and governance across facilities.
• Provide expert guidance on Functional Safety and SIS to Operations, EHS and engineering teams.
• Collaborate with regional Process Control & Automation, Reliability & Maintenance and Total Process Safety teams.
• Ensure training, competency and professional certification for FS requirements.
• Lead regional/site management reviews and drive governance improvements.
• Work with Total Process Safety Center to improve FS processes, tools and standards.
• Interpret and apply IEC 61511, IEC 62443 and IEC 61508.
• Lead FS lifecycle activities: SRS, SIL verification, MOC and incident investigations.
• Facilitate Hazard & Risk Assessments and integrate FS with Process Safety & EHS.

Functional Safety Regional Engineer

We are now looking for an experienced Regional Functional Safety Engineer to lead and strengthen our Functional Safety program across multiple facilities within the region.

This is a high-impact role for an experienced Functional Safety professional who can combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership, stakeholder management and practical operational experience. You will work across sites and functions to ensure Functional Safety is embedded, sustainable and aligned with industry standards throughout the full Functional Safety Lifecycle.

You will act as a regional subject-matter expert, providing technical leadership and guidance to Operations, EHS, Process Control & Automation, Reliability & Maintenance and other key stakeholders.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and ongoing development of the Functional Safety program across the region, coordinating site activities, priorities and internal and external resources.
• Ensure the long-term sustainability of the Functional Safety Lifecycle, embedding robust processes and governance across all participating facilities.
• Provide expert guidance on Functional Safety and SIS to Operations, EHS and engineering teams.
• Partner closely with regional Process Control & Automation, Reliability & Maintenance, Business Technology Centers and the corporate Total Process Safety team.
• Ensure internal and external personnel have the appropriate training, competency and professional certification to meet Functional Safety requirements.
• Lead and facilitate regional and site-level management reviews, identifying opportunities for improvement and ensuring effective governance of the program.
• Collaborate with Regional Managers and the Total Process Safety Technology Center to continuously improve Functional Safety processes, tools & standards.
• Provide expert interpretation and practical guidance on IEC 61511, IEC 62443 & IEC61508
• Provide technical leadership across key Functional Safety Lifecycle activities, including Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS), SIL verification, proof-test governance, Management of Change (MOC) and incident investigations.
• Facilitate Hazard & Risk Assessments (HRA) and support the integration of Functional Safety with the broader Process Safety and EHS framework.

Your Profile

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Certification as a Certified Functional Safety Engineer (CFSE) and/or Functional Safety Assessor (CFSA).
• Significant industrial experience with responsibility for SIS and Functional Safety in operating facilities.
• A strong understanding of Process Safety and its relationship with Functional Safety.
• Demonstrable experience across the Functional Safety Lifecycle, including SRS development, SIL verification, proof-test development and governance, MOC and incident investigation.
• Experience facilitating Hazard & Risk Assessments (HRA).
• Experience working within an ISO 45001 framework.
• Strong organisational and project-management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple activities and stakeholders across several facilities.
• The confidence and technical credibility to influence decisions and challenge established practices when required, using data, engineering analysis, facts and recognised standards.
• Excellent written and spoken English. A second European language would be an advantage.
