About the Role
We currently have a full-time opening for an Aquarist/Keeper. Your daily duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Performing daily husbandry, management, and welfare tasks across the aquarium.
- Developing, cleaning, and maintaining animal displays to deliver an exceptional visitor experience.
- Preparing and feeding diets to fish, marine, and terrestrial animals, ensuring optimal nutrition and enrichment.
- Monitoring the collection for signs of disease and maintaining high standards of animal care and welfare.
- Managing water quality by testing and adjusting parameters for optimal conditions.
- Operating and maintaining life support systems.
- Regular diving in displays.
- Assisting with display lighting, signage, and interactive features development.
Note: The role requires regular weekend work, particularly during peak periods such as school and public holidays.
What we are looking for in an Aquarist
You will be:

- Knowledgeable in animal husbandry, providing excellent guest experiences.
- A multi-tasker with a flexible, adaptable approach and high attention to detail.
- Organized, able to meet deadlines, with strong planning and time management skills.
Essential Criteria
- A relevant industry qualification or equivalent experience in an aquarium, aquaculture, or zoological environment.
- Experience with life support systems and water quality monitoring.
- Excellent observation and record-keeping skills.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Passionate about animal care, with sound knowledge of freshwater, saltwater, and land-based husbandry techniques.
- Dive Master certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Ability to pass an Occupational Diver Medical AS2299.
- Current Australian working rights.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, climb up to 4m, and lift up to 20kg.
Desirable Criteria
- Current First Aid, CPR, and Oxygen Therapy certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, marine science, or related experience.
