  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations and month-end processes.
  • Sound understanding of Australian GST, BAS, payroll accounting and taxation requirements.
  • Experience with accounting or project-costing software, preferably Jobpac or a comparable system.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and financial-analysis skills.
  • High level of accuracy, analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Effective organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management accounts.
  • Analyse operating costs, project expenditures and financial performance.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end entries including accruals and depreciation.
  • Maintain general ledger and perform reconciliations.
  • Investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with budgets, cash-flow forecasts and projections.
  • Prepare project-costing reports and allocate costs across projects.
  • Maintain fixed asset register and capital expenditure records.
  • Prepare payroll journals and reconciliations.
  • Prepare BAS, GST/VAT returns and related schedules.
  • Ensure tax compliance and proper account classification.
  • Develop accounting policies and financial controls.
  • Support year-end reporting and liaise with external accountants.
  • Provide financial analysis to management for decision making.
  • Monitor accounts payable/receivable and ensure accurate processing.

Accountant Marine and Civil Maintenance Pty Ltd

Location of the Employment: 9/41-43 Higginbotham Road, Gladesville, NSW-2111

Employment type: Full-time

Hours: 38 hours per week

Salary: $82,500 plus super

Key responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, management accounts and supporting financial schedules.
  • Examine operating costs, project expenditure, revenue and financial performance, and provide findings and recommendations to management.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end accounting entries, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation, provisions and account reclassifications.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and perform detailed balance sheet, bank, intercompany and control-account reconciliations.
  • Investigate financial discrepancies, identify underlying causes and implement appropriate accounting adjustments and corrective measures.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets, cash-flow forecasts and financial projections, and analyse actual performance against approved budgets.
  • Prepare project-costing reports and analyse the allocation of labour, plant, materials and overhead expenses across projects and cost centres.
  • Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register, including acquisitions, disposals, transfers, depreciation and capital expenditure.
  • Prepare and review payroll journals, payroll reconciliations and the allocation of employment costs to relevant projects and accounts.
  • Prepare and reconcile Business Activity Statements, GST accounts, VAT returns, Fringe Benefits Tax calculations and related supporting schedules.
  • Review accounting transactions to ensure appropriate tax treatment, account classification and compliance with applicable accounting standards and statutory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, financial controls and reporting procedures to improve the accuracy and reliability of financial information.
  • Support financial year-end reporting and coordinate the preparation of information required by external accountants, auditors and taxation advisers.
  • Provide financial analysis and accounting advice to management to support operational planning and informed business decisions.
  • Monitor accounts payable and receivable control accounts and oversee the accuracy of transaction processing performed within the finance function.
