Job summary

Lawson Elliott Accounting Recruitment is assisting a growing multinational in financial services to recruit an Assistant Accountant. The role covers accounts payable, reconciliations, month‑end and payroll support, with scope to build technical accounting experience.

The successful candidate will have 3–4 years’ accounting experience, a degree in accounting/finance, and be working towards or planning CPA/CA. Strong Excel and GL knowledge are essential in this hands-on, growth‑oriented position.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years experience in a similar accounting role, ideally in a mid‑sized or multinational business.
• Degree qualified in accounting, finance or related discipline; CPA/CA in progress or planned.
• Strong Excel skills, good grasp of general ledger and month‑end processes; proactive and detail‑oriented.

Responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day accounts payable from coding to payment processing.
• Reconcile bank accounts daily and investigate discrepancies.
• Prepare month‑end journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with payroll‑related accounting incl. accruals and onboarding/offboarding finance aspects.
• Maintain tidy, audit‑ready records; identify opportunities to streamline processes.
• Handle intercompany activity and related journals.
• Support month‑end close timetable and related reporting.
• Support intercompany reconciliations and related calculations.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join a busy finance team, reporting to the Finance Manager. Working across accounts payable, reconciliations, month-end and payroll support, you'll play a key part in keeping the finance function accurate, timely and well controlled. It's a hands‑on, newly created role with genuine scope to build your technical accounting experience. Your responsibilities include:

• Manage day‑to‑day accounts payable, from coding and approving supplier invoices through to processing expense claims and corporate card spend
• Carry out the required checks on supplier bank details before releasing payments, helping safeguard the business against payment fraud
• Reconcile bank accounts daily, following up on discrepancies and flagging items that need attention
• Pull together month‑end journals and schedules covering accruals, prepayments, leave provisions and fixed asset movements
• Play an active part in the month‑end close, keeping the timetable on track and preparing balance sheet reconciliations for review
• Handle intercompany activity, including reconciliations, journal postings and the calculations that support them
• Assist with payroll‑related accounting, including journals, accruals and the finance side of employee onboarding and off boarding
• Keep financial records tidy and audit‑ready, and look for opportunities to streamline and automate finance processes

To be considered for this role you will have 3 to 4 years' experience in a similar accounting position, ideally gained within a mid‑sized or multinational business. You will be degree qualified in accounting, finance or a related discipline, and either studying towards or planning to commence your CPA or CA. Strong Excel skills, a sound grasp of general ledger and month‑end processes, and a proactive, detail‑focused approach will see you succeed here. Exposure to a multi‑entity environment and confidence adopting new systems and tools to lift efficiency would be well regarded.
