Job summary

Pentana Solutions is hiring four engineers in Australia, Parramatta, to build automotive software end to end. You’ll contribute with PHP/Laravel on the backend and React on the frontend within a squad, deploying on Azure and using AI as a standard part of development.

We value deep back-end or front-end strength, and willingness to cross over as needed. Senior to early-career engineers are welcome, with a focus on shipping reliable microservices.

Pentana Solutions has been powering the Australian automotive industry for over 50 years. We're continuing to invest significantly in our product, further enhancing our platform with a modern, AI-led approach. Around one in three of our staff use internal AI tools every business day. The work is real, the customers are demanding, and we're hiring.

The opportunity:

You'll join a product squad building automotive software end to end, with the engineering, the QA and the deployment all owned inside the squad. You'll write modern PHP and Laravel on the back end and React on the front, on Azure, and you'll build with AI as a matter of course.

You'll have a lean, stronger on the back-end API side or stronger on the front-end, and that's exactly what we want. We're hiring four engineers across levels, and we pair complementary strengths inside the squads. What matters is that you can go deep on your strength and aren't precious about jumping to the other side when the squad needs it.

Why this role exists right now:

We're building at pace across multiple streams, and we need engineers who can pick up a service and own it. Some of you will be senior, focused on the back-end API work where depth and reuse matter most. Some will be mid-level, hungry to stretch across the stack. Some will be earlier-career, strong on the front-end and ready to learn fast. We're after a mix.

You'll work inside a squad alongside a product manager, BA, QA and your squad lead, with DevOps and infrastructure handling the platform so you can focus on building. Each squad owns its microservices, from development through QA to deployment.

What you'll bring:

• Strong PHP and Laravel, with real hands-on engineering behind you.
• A genuine strength on one side of the stack, back-end API work in PHP and Laravel or front-end in React, and the willingness to work across both.
• AI-native ways of working. You build with AI, you prompt it well, and you use it to move faster and troubleshoot. If you'd rather write everything from scratch by hand, this isn't the place.
• Enthusiasm to jump in. The engineers who do well here have a specialism but aren't precious about it. They throw their hat in the ring and learn.
• Comfort owning a microservice end to end, development through QA and deployment, to the standards set across the squad.
• Azure experience, or the ability to ramp quickly. The cloud decision is made, so come ready to work in it rather than re-litigate it.
• DevOps exposure (Terraform, Bicep, GitHub) would be an added bonus, not a requirement.

What to expect:

Two things to know going in. First, we build with AI. Our engineers scaffold services and troubleshoot with it as standard, and an attitude of 'I only write my own code, by hand' won't work here. Second, this is build against fixed timelines on a two-year defined scope. Once scope is set in the first few months, it's full steam ahead. There's room to suggest a better way, but not to explore for months for its own sense. Come ready to ship.
