Software at Scale is seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer to lead architectural direction across critical programs, owning end-to-end delivery of high-scale systems built with TypeScript, React, and Node.js. The Role and The Challenge

We are seeking an exceptional and highly proactive Staff Full Stack Engineer to lead technical delivery and architectural strategy across our most critical programs.

If you are content with picking up standard tickets and writing boilerplate code, this is not the role for you. We want an elite technical leader. You will step into a high trust and fully empowered environment where you are expected to take complete architectural ownership of ultra fast and highly performant full stack systems, setting engineering baselines and guiding multiple squads.

Key Responsibilities

• End to End Architecture: Design, build, and scale production grade systems across the entire stack using TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Node.js, establishing architectural standards for engineering squads.
• Solving Interesting Problems: Autonomously identify architectural bottlenecks or process inefficiencies, thinking outside the box to engineer creative and unconventional solutions to highly complex technical challenges.
• System Design and Production Operations: Own comprehensive system design, applying 12 factor app principles to ensure your software is robust, observable, and fully prepared to operate reliably in high scale production environments.
• Complex Integrations and Legacy Constraints: Architect resilient software solutions that successfully navigate strict enterprise constraints, including seamless integration with legacy systems and complex third party APIs.
• GraphQL Mastery: Architect and implement robust GraphQL APIs on the backend and seamlessly consume them on the frontend with modern caching strategies.
• High Performance Frontend: Ensure optimal Core Web Vitals and lightning fast render times by leveraging advanced Next.js features.
• Secure Development: Architect solutions that adhere to strictest security standards, working safely within highly secure enterprise environments to protect sensitive data and prevent vulnerabilities at every layer.
• DevOps and Testing: Develop and maintain pipelines using GitHub Actions or TeamCity, implementing robust full stack test automation practices including containerised workflows using Docker.

What You Bring (Technically)

• Staff Level Expertise: Proven experience operating at a Staff Engineer level within modern and high performing engineering teams, leading architectural direction and mentoring technical talent.
• System Design and Production Acumen: Deep understanding of modern system design and architectural patterns, with complete fluency in 12 factor app principles and a rigorous focus on how code behaves in production.
• Full Stack TypeScript Mastery: Deep and hands on expertise writing production grade TypeScript on both the client and the server within monorepo architectures.
• Frontend Excellence: Mandatory and proven experience building complex and high performance applications using React and Next.js.
• Backend and API Design: Extensive commercial experience building scalable backend services in Node.js and designing and implementing GraphQL APIs from scratch.
• Security and Performance: A strong track record of building secure and performant applications, including optimising bundle sizes, rendering strategies, and database queries.
• Tooling Fluency: A practical and delivery focused mindset on how to leverage modern AI tools to assist in software engineering and problem solving.
