Job summary

UGL Pty Limited in Townsville is seeking an Operations professional at our Defence fuel installation site. You’ll be trained to manage Defence fuel storage and distribution facilities, operate fuel handling equipment, monitor quality and inventory, and support maintenance activities.

This role offers a structured training program and a mix of day and afternoon shifts, with 8-hour shifts. No prior defence or fuel-industry experience is required as training is provided.

Qualifications

• Essential practical capabilities in fuel handling and facility operations.
• Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
• Comfortable using industrial control systems (SCADA/JFIMS).

Responsibilities

• Safely operate aviation and ground fuel installations in line with compliance requirements.
• Monitor fuel quality through regular sampling and testing.
• Ensure fuel quality, volume, and availability using SCADA/JFIMS; support maintenance.
• Adhere to safety, operational, and security procedures.

Job description

The Opportunity Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, this role offers stability and growth, placing you at the center of operations at our fuel installation site. With a structured training and development program, prior experience in defence or the fuel industry isn't required; you'll be fully trained. Your main focus will be managing Defence fuel storage and distribution facilities, operating fuel handling equipment, monitoring fuel quality and inventory, supporting maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with safety, operational, and security procedures.

Hours: This role includes a mix of day & afternoon shifts. Shifts are 8 hours. Typical shift times are: Day: 6:30am to 2:30pm Afternoon: 2:30pm - 10:30pm (20% loading on ordinary hours)

Duties include:

• Safely operate and manage aviation and/or ground fuel installations in line with compliance requirements.
• Monitor and maintain fuel quality through regular sampling and testing.
• Ensure fuel quality, compliance, volume, and availability using systems like JFIMS and SCADA; ideal for someone comfortable with technology.

Requires:

• A valid driver's licence (HR or HC desirable but not essential at entry).
• Australian citizenship and ability to pass a police check.
