Qualifications

• Certified security professional with cargo screening knowledge.
• Proven ability to follow aviation security procedures in high-security environments.
• Capability to obtain ASIC and DG awareness certification if not already held.

Responsibilities

• Perform Qantas Freight cargo screening in accordance with aviation security regulations and client procedures.
• Examine and screen cargo consignments using approved screening equipment.
• Carry out enhanced airside screening procedures.
• Screen persons and items entering the Cargo facility.
• Operate and monitor X-ray screening technology.
• Conduct identification inspections to verify approved entry to the Cargo facility.
• Follow client security protocols and compliance requirements.
• Identify and respond to potential threats during freight examination.
• Document and report security incidents accurately.

About the Role

We are seeking Casual Freight Examination / Security Officers to work at the Cargo Precinct of Western Sydney Airport, with the potential to transition into full-timeas operational requirements grow.

As a Freight Examination / Security Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of cargo within the Qantas Freight network. You will be responsible for conducting thorough compliant screening of cargo and performing security-related duties in a high-security, regulated aviation environment, including Enhanced Airside Screening activities.

This role involves undertaking advanced screening procedures and interact with screening equipment to include x-ray screening technology, while maintaining strict adherence to aviation security protocols and compliance requirements.

This position requires a high level of attention to detail, strong observational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform Qantas Freight cargo screening in accordance with aviation security regulations and client procedures.
• Conduct examination and screening of cargo consignments using approved screening equipment
• Carry out enhanced airside screening procedures
• Screening of persons and items entering the Cargo facility.
• Operate and monitor X-ray screening technology
• Conduct identification inspections to verify approved persons to enter the Cargo facility.
• Follow strict client security protocols, procedures, and compliance requirements
• Identify and respond to potential threats when examining Freight.
• Accurately document and report any security incidents

Skills, Experience & Requirements

• Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (Air Cargo Examination Officer)
• NSW Security Licence (1A)
• Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) or ability to obtain
• Dangerous Goods Awareness Certificate (or ability to obtain)
• Excellent attention to detail and strong observational skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and compliance requirements
• Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Basic computer skills for operating screening equipment and reporting

Additional Requirements

• Must successfully pass Drug & Alcohol testing
• Must pass a pre-employment medical assessment, including colour perception standards required for X-ray screening
• Must be available to work a 24/7 rotating roster across all 7 days, including day and night shifts
