Job summary

Hastings Deering is seeking an experienced Foreman for its Mackay Mineshop to lead a skilled trades team, coordinate daily workshop activities, and uphold safety, quality and customer service. This permanent, Monday-to-Friday role offers career development, mentorship, and a stable long-term position within a global Caterpillar dealer network.

You will drive safety, build customer relationships, plan resources, and oversee quotes and costs while delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients.

Qualifications

• Trade qualified with a recognised diesel, plant or heavy equipment background.
• Proven leadership experience in workshop, mining or heavy equipment settings.
• Deep knowledge of heavy mobile equipment maintenance and repair.
• Strong planning, prioritisation and scheduling skills.

We're looking for an experienced Foreman to join our Mackay Mineshop team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated leader who is passionate about developing people, driving workshop productivity, and delivering exceptional outcomes for our customers.

As a Foreman, you will be responsible for leading a team of skilled tradespeople, coordinating daily workshop activities, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer service. This is a Permanent, Monday to Friday role.

What you'll be doing:

As a Foreman at Hastings Deering, you will:

• Drive safety leadership - promote a strong safety culture through regular engagement, communication, and continuous safety improvement initiatives.
• Maintain safety compliance - ensure safety management systems are effectively implemented, monitored, and adhered to across the team.
• Build customer relationships - work closely with customers, managers, and employees to align expectations and deliver exceptional service outcomes.
• Lead team performance - monitor results, communicate expectations, and identify improvement opportunities to drive operational success.
• Maximise productivity - achieve and exceed service productivity KPIs by proactively addressing issues and implementing effective solutions.
• Plan and allocate resources - align team goals, budgets, work plans, and resource requirements with broader business objectives.
• Oversee quoting and estimates - ensure customer quotations are completed accurately, delivered promptly, and followed up to achieve the best outcome for both the customer and business.
• Monitor financial performance - identify service call budget variances early and implement corrective actions to minimise impacts.
• Manage work order performance - oversee estimated versus actual work order costs and communicate discrepancies or training needs to key stakeholders.
• Drive quality and efficiency - monitor Work in Progress (WIP) and collaborate with Service Fitters and Service Administrators to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Support delivery commitments - work with Leading Hands to ensure machines and components are completed on time, within budget, and to customer expectations

What you'll need:

A successful teammate will have experience in:

• Trade qualified - hold a recognised qualification as a Diesel Fitter, Plant Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Auto Electrician, or equivalent.
• Experienced leader - proven experience leading teams within workshop, mining, construction, or heavy equipment environments.
• Technical expertise - strong knowledge of heavy mobile equipment maintenance, diagnostics, and repair activities.
• People and performance focused - capable of managing teams, workloads, and operational priorities to achieve business objectives.
• Planning and coordination skills - experienced in workshop scheduling, labour planning, and day‑to‑day job coordination.
• Strong communicator - highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills across all levels of the business.
• Problem‑solving mindset - able to identify issues, implement solutions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Safety and quality focused - committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, workmanship, and customer service.
• Systems capability - proficient in Microsoft Office and business management systems within a fast‑paced operational environment.
