Job summary

Mercy Health Yarrawonga is seeking a Food Service Assistant to support meal preparation and dining services for residents, ensuring meals meet dietary requirements and residents' preferences in a warm, caring environment.

You will follow food safety protocols, assist with daily kitchen tasks, and work closely with chefs and dietitians to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care. A positive, collaborative approach and commitment to dignity in ageing are essential.

Qualifications

• Completion of food safety training or certification where required.
• Previous experience in food service or a kitchen, preferably in aged care.
• Understanding of nutritional requirements for aged care residents.
• Good verbal communication to interact with residents and staff.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

About the opportunity

• Meal Preparation: Assists in preparing and serving meals according to dietary requirements and resident preferences.

To thrive in this role, you will have:

• Food Handling Certification: Completion of food safety training or certification, often required by local health regulations is desirable.
• Experience: Previous experience in food service or a kitchen environment, especially in aged care, is desirable.
• Knowledge of Dietary Needs: Understanding of nutritional requirements and dietary restrictions common in aged care.
• Communication Skills: Good verbal communication skills to interact effectively with residents and staff.
• Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining:

• Police check
• NDIS clearance
