Job summary

Maitland City Council is offering a four‑year Apprenticeship for a Parks & Gardens position within the Recreation Services Team. You will gain hands-on experience while completing a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens and work with experienced horticultural professionals across Maitland’s parks and open spaces.

You will attend TAFE as part of your apprenticeship, learning to plant, maintain and improve gardens, turf, and facilities, while developing teamwork, safety, and practical plant

Qualifications

• Eligibility to undertake a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens.
• Genuine interest in gardening, horticulture and landscape maintenance.
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
• Good communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Commitment to working safely and following workplace procedures.
• Provisional or Class C Driver Licence by commencement of employment.
• White Card (General Construction Induction Card) or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement.

Responsibilities

• Planting and maintaining gardens and landscaped areas.
• Turf and open space maintenance.
• Weed control and general horticultural duties.
• Operating horticultural plant and equipment, including mowers and power tools.
• Assisting with the maintenance and improvement of community parks and recreational facilities.
• Working safely and collaboratively as part of a high-performing team.
