Job summary

Snowy Monaro Regional Council in NSW is seeking a skilled mechanic to maintain and repair a broad mix of plant and equipment across multiple workshops in Berridale, Bombala and Cooma. You will work with heavy vehicles, earthmoving equipment and ground care assets, ensuring safety, compliance and timely repairs.

The role requires a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or related discipline, RMS inspector credentials, and a valid Class C (plus Heavy Rigid or Heavy

Qualifications

• Certificate III qualification or above in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or related mechanical discipline.
• Experience in obtaining/maintaining RMS inspectors and NSW Fair Trading Tradesperson Certificate Motor Mechanic.
• Experience in motor vehicle, heavy plant or heavy road construction maintenance.
• Ability to work unsupervised and manage multiple tasks with initiative.
• Current Class C licence; Heavy Rigid or Heavy Combination Licence; Confined Space ticket.
• Fabrication/Machining/Hydraulic experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair Council's broad mix of late model plant and equipment including heavy earthmoving, road transport, waste management, commercial and passenger vehicles, and ground care plant.
• Attend callouts and breakdowns as required.
• Assist with procurement of goods and services and maintain workshop documentation.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed and workshop environment remains safe and compliant.

Package: $75,735 - $83,598 (Grade 7 of the SMRC Salary System 2026/2027) + 12% Super + potential market allowance dependent upon skills & experience

About the Role:

Council operates three mechanical repair workshops located at Berridale, Bombala and Cooma, and variations to start locations can be negotiated.

You will be required to:

• Maintain and repair Councils’ broad mix of mostly late model plant and equipment, including heavy earthmoving, road transport, waste management, commercial and passenger vehicles, and ground care plant.
• Maintain a suitable clean and safe environment to carry out service and repairs, whilst ensuring a high level of awareness and attention to safety procedures, and ensuring all vehicles, plant and equipment released from the workshop are in a safe operational condition, meeting legislative and manufacturer requirements.
• Assist with the procurement of goods and services to meet operational needs and ensure all workshop documentation is maintained in an accurate, timely manner.
• Attend callouts and breakdowns as required

About You:

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Certificate III qualification or above, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or a related mechanical discipline
• Demonstrated ability to obtain/maintain RMS inspectors and NSW Fair Trading “Tradesperson Certificate Motor Mechanic”
• Demonstrated experience in one of the following technologies: motor vehicle, heavy plant or heavy road construction maintenance
• Proven ability to work unsupervised, managing multiple tasks, applying initiative, judgement and enthusiasm to your outcomes
• Current Class C licence
• Fabrication/Machining/Hydraulic experience
• Heavy Rigid or Heavy Combination Licence
• Confined Space ticketAbility to prepare basic quotations on repairs and fabrication
