Job summary

Snowy Monaro Regional Council is seeking a team member to support waste services delivery in the Cooma region. You will assist screening, sorting and placement of materials, and promote safe, efficient waste practices in the community.

The role requires physical fitness, good communication and basic admin skills. A White Card and First Aid are preferred, with training provided where needed.

Qualifications

• Proven communication skills and customer service ability.
• Good physical fitness for manual tasks and labouring.
• Ability to complete forms and timesheets accurately.
• Current White Card and first aid are desirable.
• Certificate III in waste management or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to delivery of waste services to community per standards.
• Screen and sort incoming waste to minimise landfill loads.
• Promote safe, best-practice waste methods to public.
• Maintain council records including timesheets and reports.
• Participate in toolbox talks and follow instructions.
• Support council performance and safe workplace practices.
• Ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

About the Role

• Contribute to the effective delivery of resource and waste services to the community in accordance with agreed performance standards
• Facilitate accurate screening and sorting of incoming waste to minimise quantities directed to the landfill and ensure that all materials are deposited in site specific locations
• Promote best practice methods in waste management to the public in a friendly cooperative manner
• Maintain accurate Council records including timesheets and report operational issues to supervisor including any infringements to Council’s policies and procedures
• Contribute to toolbox talks as required and follow written and oral instructions
• Contribute to the performance of Council: demonstrate professional conduct, make the best use of knowledge, experience and skills and be accountable for own decisions and actions
• Contribute to a safe workplace: comply with legislative and organisational requirements and be accountable for own decisions and actions

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

• NSW White Card (Construction Induction Card)
• Proven communication skills with the ability to provide excellent internal and external customer service
• Proven physical fitness to perform the inherent requirements of the role
• Demonstrated ability to carry out general laboring/maintenance repairs
• Demonstrated basic administration and computer skills to be able to complete forms, timesheets and other Council records
• Current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain
• Certificate III in waste management or demonstrated experience in waste management operations, or willingness to obtain
• Traffic Control Licence, or willingness to obtain
• Hepatitis and Tetanus Vaccinations or willingness to obtain
