Job summary

Australian Institute of Music is seeking a Fleet Controller for the Afternoon Shift in Port Melbourne. The role involves coordinating daily fleet movements, allocating drivers, and ensuring container transport operations run safely and on schedule.

The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, 12:00pm–8:00pm, based at Port Melbourne. You will coordinate import/export container movements, communicate with drivers and clients, monitor progress, and respond to delays.

Qualifications

• Experience in fleet control or transport operations.
• Container transport experience is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Melbourne port operations and local transport network.

About The Opportunity

Fleet Controller – Afternoon Shift | Port Melbourne

Our client is a well-established and highly respected transport and logistics operator experiencing continued growth. Due to increased operational demand, they are seeking an experienced Fleet Controller to join their team in Port Melbourne on a full-time basis.

Working Monday to Friday, 12:00pm–8:00pm, you will play a key role in coordinating daily fleet movements, allocating drivers and ensuring container transport operations run safely, efficiently and on schedule.

This is a fast-paced operational role where no two days are the same. If you have experience within container transport, wharf cartage or fleet allocation, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor daily fleet and container movements
• Allocate jobs and manage driver schedules in real time
• Coordinate import and export container movements
• Communicate effectively with drivers, clients, depots and operational stakeholders
• Monitor deliveries, collections and container movements throughout the shift
• Respond to delays, changes and operational issues as they arise
• Ensure jobs are completed efficiently and within required timeframes
• Maintain accurate records and update transport management systems
• Ensure compliance with transport regulations, Chain of Responsibility and company procedures
• Work closely with the wider operations team to maintain exceptional service levels

About You – To be successful, you will have:

• Previous experience within fleet control, fleet allocation or transport operations
• Container transport experience is highly desirable
• Experience with wharf cartage, import/export containers or port operations will be highly regarded
• Strong understanding of Melbourne's transport network and port operations
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Confidence communicating with drivers and customers
• Ability to think on your feet and make operational decisions quickly
• Strong computer and transport management system skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability
• Ability to remain calm and effective within a fast-paced transport environment
• A reliable, proactive and team-focused approach
