Job summary

Shermac Australia Pty in Brisbane is looking for a hands-on Brisbane Fitter to prepare truck chassis, fit Shermac bodies and equipment, and complete commissioning and testing.

As the Brisbane branch grows, this role is expected to develop into a Workshop Team Leader position, requiring independent work, problem solving and ownership to deliver high-quality equipment from chassis preparation through to final commissioning.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical fitting experience.
• Automotive electrical installation and fault-finding experience.
• Good practical knowledge of hydraulic systems.
• Experience with trucks, heavy vehicles or mobile plant.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, hydraulic schematics and electrical diagrams.
• Willingness to undertake occasional travel and site-based work.

Responsibilities

• Fit chassis mounts, ROPS and associated components.
• Install and route wiring harnesses into truck cabs and chassis.
• Install PTOs, hydraulic pumps and associated equipment.
• Complete mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic installations.
• Coordinate cranage and installation of water cart and service truck bodies.
• Position, align and bolt bodies to truck chassis.
• Complete hydraulic, electrical and air connections.
• Run up and function-test completed equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
• Work independently and take ownership of jobs through to completion.

Job description

The Brisbane Fitter is a hands-on, multi-skilled role responsible for preparing truck chassis, fitting Shermac bodies and equipment, and completing commissioning and testing. As the Brisbane branch grows, this role is expected to develop into a Workshop Team Leader position, making it well suited to an experienced all-rounder who can work independently, solve problems and take ownership of getting equipment completed to a high standard.
