Job summary

NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure invites an Advisor, Fisheries to join the team. You will provide expert fisheries and aquatic habitat advice influencing planning and development decisions across NSW, preparing assessment reports and engaging with stakeholders to support sustainable outcomes.

Based in Parramatta or other NSW DPHI offices by negotiation, this permanent full-time role offers a flexible working arrangement.

Qualifications

• Degree qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience (e.g., Environmental Science or Marine-focused degree).
• Strong knowledge of fisheries, aquatic habitats and environmental systems across marine, estuarine and freshwater contexts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with demonstrated ability to present technical information to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience managing multiple priorities with high accuracy, quality and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Provide fisheries and aquatic habitat advice that informs NSW planning and development decisions.
• Prepare assessment reports and contribute to stakeholder engagement activities.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and governance/QA processes.
• Apply fisheries/science expertise across complex planning projects to deliver sustainable outcomes.
