Job summary

Muscat Trailers is seeking a self-motivated First Class Welder/Metal Fabricator to join its Heavy Vehicle Manufacturing team in Sydney. The role involves aluminium welding across 3–20 mm thickness, reading blueprints, and supporting tradesmen.

Job description

Muscat Trailers is an Australian, family owned and operated business currently on the lookout for an enthusiastic person to join our highly motivated and busy, Heavy Vehicle Manufacturing team.

You will be working alongside and supporting an amazing team, with a friendly working environment.

To be successful in this role you must be reliable, able to work without constant guidance and be proactive. You will be expected to be able to work unsupervised at times, as well as assist our tradesmen as required.

We are in the market for a self-motivated First Class Welder/Metal Fabricator, the successful applicant will perform duties which will include (but are not limited to) all aspects of aluminium welding in the production of truck and trailer tipping equipment:

You will be able to competently study blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job requirements.

Select, clean and prepare metal stock, understand material selection and care of materials during the manufacturing process to ensure end product finish quality.

Must be able to competently use push-pull style mig welding machines and to weld in aluminium thicknesses ranging from 3mm to 20mm.

Must also be competent with positional welding methods including, but not limited to, vertical up & over head.

Cut marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines. Align parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments.

Be competent in using various hand tools including but not limited to circular saws, air saws, drills and like.

Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools,by heating and hammering. Join metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting. Examine welds for width of bead, penetration and precision. Clean and smooth welds by filing, chiseling and grinding.

Finish products by cleaning, polishing, filing and bathing in acidic solutions.

Accountable for the general cleanliness of work area and tool cleanliness and return on a daily basis.

Accountable for ensuring all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) that is required, to be worn at all times in the workplace, so far as is reasonably practical and must ensure that the safety apparel and equipment is maintained, clean and hygienic and in good working order.

The successful candidate must have the following:

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and also as part of a team

Able to shift gears in a high paced environment and respond quickly to the requirements of production.
