Job description

The Financial Controller leads Royal Far West's core finance function, ensuring reliable financial reporting, robust financial controls, effective treasury management and sound financial governance. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the role leads an established, collaborative finance team and is accountable for the quality, timeliness and continuous improvement of finance operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role. With a small team, the Financial Controller both leads and does the work: owning statutory and management reporting, audit, payroll and transactional oversight, grant and funding compliance, and the coordination of annual budgets and forecasts.

A key priority is improving systems, reporting, controls and processes, delivering early efficiencies and leading the finance workstream of future systems transformation. The role works closely with the Strategic Finance Partner, providing the reliable financial data that underpins RFW's government and philanthropic proposals, and builds on the finance team's positive and supportive culture.

  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce or finance, and CA or CPA qualification.
  • Substantial experience in financial control or a senior Finance Manager role, with the capability to lead a finance function independently.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, financial reporting, audit, internal controls, taxation and statutory compliance, including ACNC, BAS and FBT.
  • Proven success leading and developing small teams, with a collaborative, supportive and hands-on style.
  • Experience coordinating budgets and forecasts, delivering management reporting, and explaining financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Practical treasury capability, including cash flow forecasting, liquidity, cash reserves and oversight of investments within governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated delivery of finance process, systems and reporting improvements, with strong financial systems and advanced Excel capability.
  • Excellent judgement, communication, prioritisation and stakeholder management, with a commitment to accuracy and accountability.
  • A current NSW Working With Children Check and a satisfactory National Police Check, or willingness to obtain them.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit, health, disability or community services sector.
  • Experience with grant funding and acquittals, NDIS and government funding arrangements, and ACNC reporting.
  • Experience with capital works, property or fixed-asset accounting.
  • Experience with ERP or finance system implementations and cross-functional transformation projects.
  • Experience supporting a Board Finance & Audit Committee.
