Job summary

The Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education is seeking a Financial Accountant to support the Finance and Accounting Manager in delivering accurate, timely and compliant financial accounting and reporting. Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Experience with month-end and year-end processes and journals.
• Experience with financial reporting and taxation or compliance returns such as BAS, payroll tax and FBT.
• Asset, lease and other financial accounting activities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Undertake month end and year end financial accounting activities, including preparation and posting of journals, reconciliations and supporting financial schedules.
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and financial records through regular review, reconciliation, investigation and correction of accounting matters.
• Prepare and support statutory financial reporting and taxation requirements, including Business Activity Statements, payroll tax and Fringe Benefits Tax.
• Maintain and support fixed asset, lease and other financial accounting records in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards, Institute policies and procedures.
• Prepare assigned components of the annual financial statements and other financial reports, working papers and supporting information.
• Apply accounting standards, policies and financial principles to accounting matters, investigate issues and provide advice or recommendations for review by the Finance and Accounting Manager.
• Support internal and external audit requirements, financial process improvements, and provide financial accounting guidance and assistance to Finance staff and other stakeholders as required.
• Undertake other reasonable duties within the scope of the position as directed by the Finance and Accounting Manager.
