Simon & Schuster Australia is seeking a Financial Accountant to join the Finance team. Reporting to the Deputy Head of Finance, you will oversee monthly financial reporting, AP/AR processes, and revenue processing for eBooks and audiobooks, while balancing reconciliations.

You will partner with editorial, support budgets and forecasts, manage royalty contracts and statements, and help strengthen financial controls across Australia, the UK, India and the US.

Qualifications

• CPA/CA qualified or working towards qualification.
• Experience in finance with emphasis on monthly reporting and reconciliations.
• Experience in publishing/media finance is desirable.

The Job Profile

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Finance, the Financial Accountant is an integral part of the S&S Australia Finance team, central to our monthly financial reporting, smooth running of AP and AR processes, accurate processing of eBook and Audiobook revenues and responsible for ongoing balance sheet reconciliations. You will also be involved in a variety of finance projects aimed at improving our efficiency and the quality of service provided to the broader business.

The Job Role

This is a broad and visible role at the heart of the Finance team. You will ensure the accuracy of the P&L and balance sheet, deliver timely group reporting, and be a trusted contact for colleagues across Australia, the UK, India and the US. Working closely with the editorial team, you will support budgets, forecasts and expense tracking, while also managing royalty contracts and statements, author and agent queries, and rights deals. You will help strengthen financial processes and controls, explain complex matters clearly to colleagues outside Finance, and support junior team members. With scope to guide others from the outset, the role offers a strong opportunity to build leadership experience.

The Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be CPA/ CA qualified or working towards qualification either looking for a first role outside of audit practice or already working within a Finance team in industry. Media experience – whether in industry or audit capacity – is highly desirable. You will have exceptional organisational and communication skills together with solid knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with accountancy software.

You will be a proactive team player, self-motivated and able to work under own autonomy with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills as well as have good analytical skills and the ability to use judgement. You will have an inquisitive mind and be unafraid to question existing processes and suggest potential improvements.
