Overview

Financial Accountant – NSW Government – Location: Parramatta (Hybrid) • Duration: 6 months • Rate: $55–$60 per hour + super • Hours: 35 hours per week

Our NSW Government client is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join their team on a 6-month contract. This role suits a detail-oriented finance professional with strong experience in end-to-end financial control, reporting, and analysis. You’ll join a high-performing finance team and play a key role in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of financial operations. The position offers a balanced hybrid work model and the opportunity to contribute to critical financial control and reporting processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage financial control activities for month-end and year-end close, including journals, intercompany transactions, and reconciliations.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the department’s expense/revenue portfolio, providing detailed analysis, insights, and reports.
  • Maintain integrity across accounts payable, payment receipts, accruals, and creditor balances.
  • Liaise with Shared Service Teams to ensure accuracy in payment processing, purchase orders, and asset registers.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, project finance, and business partnering activities.
  • Assist with year-end reporting and audit requirements.
  • Oversee revenue transactions to ensure compliance and provide financial support as needed.
About You
  • CA/CPA Qualified
  • Strong financial accounting background, ideally within a large or government organisation
  • SAP experience (desirable) and strong excel skills
  • Hands-on experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across teams.
  • Proactive and demonstrates strong initiative
