Job summary

ThompsonCook is seeking a technically minded Finance Systems professional to join our finance team across Australia. Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in Financial Accountant/Systems Accountant role.
• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
• Strong understanding of GL structures, financial reporting and processes.
• Experience with ERP systems, upgrades or process improvement initiatives.
• CPA or CA qualification, or in progress, highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and support accounting systems and related applications to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Configure, test, validate and support system upgrades and changes.
• Ensure data integrity across multiple systems and reporting outputs.
• Support month-end and year-end processes by reconciling system outputs to the GL.
• Develop and enhance standard and ad hoc financial reports using ERP, Excel and Power BI.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and reporting efficiencies.
• Document system processes, controls, data flows and user guides.
• Provide support to finance system users and assist with control testing and audits.

• Finance Systems & Reporting Focus | ERP & Process Improvement Exposure

The Opportunity

This opportunity is based in either Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra, with 3 days in the office.

Our client is a privately backed infrastructure company supporting government and enterprise clients, with a growing domestic and international presence. With a strong focus on reliability and innovation, the business is currently undertaking a major finance system transformation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded accountant with a passion for systems, data, and process improvement to join a high-performing finance team. Working closely with Finance, IT, and operational stakeholders, you will play a key role in maintaining and optimising financial systems, ensuring data integrity, and enhancing reporting capabilities across the business.

The Challenge

Reporting to the Finance Systems Manager, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Maintaining and supporting accounting systems and related applications to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
• Performing configuration, testing, validation, and support of system upgrades, enhancements, and changes
• Ensuring the integrity, quality, and consistency of financial data across multiple systems and reporting outputs
• Supporting month-end and year-end processes by ensuring system outputs reconcile accurately to the general ledger
• Developing, maintaining, and enhancing standard and ad hoc financial reports using ERP systems, Excel, and Power BI
• Identifying opportunities for process improvement, automation, and reporting efficiencies
• Documenting system processes, controls, data flows, and user guides
• Providing support and troubleshooting assistance to finance system users across the business
• Assisting with the maintenance and enhancement of internal controls embedded within financial systems
• Supporting audits, system reviews, and control testing through the provision of data and reporting analysis
• Contributing to finance transformation initiatives and projects involving system and data enhancements

The Expertise

Please consider expressing interest if you possess the following:

• 5+ years' experience within a Financial Accountant, Systems Accountant, Finance Systems Analyst, or similar role
• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• Strong understanding of general ledger structures, financial reporting, and accounting processes.
• Experience supporting ERP systems, system implementations, upgrades, or process improvement initiatives
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify data issues and implement practical solutions
• CPA or CA qualification, or working towards completion, will be highly regarded
