Synod Mission Services (SMS) Finance team provides financial systems, accounting compliance, planning, analysis and performance reporting across the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) NSW/ACT. Shared financial services are also provided to the National Assembly, regional Presbyteries, and a range of UCA NSW/ACT related organisations.
We are seeking a Finance Officer to support the day-to-day financial operations of Synod Mission Services and its shared service clients. Reporting to the Manager of Finance Operations, this role plays a key part in accounts payable, payment processing, financial administration, and continuous process improvement.

Process weekly supplier payments including EFT, BPAY, manual and international transactions
Set up and manage recurring and ad‑hoc payments via UFS internet banking
Monitor creditor ageing reports and ensure timely and accurate payments
Conduct analytical reviews of vendor activity, reconciliations and exception reporting using tools such as Power BI
Provide system training and support to internal users on Business Central
Performing analytical reviews using Power BI and/or other tools (e.g. EFTSure) for vendor activity, ageing reports, reconciliations, and exception reporting
Support the implementation and continuous improvement of finance systems and processes (including Purchase Order and corporate card management systems)
Assist with audit processes, including preparation of documentation and responding to queries
Deliver high‑quality service to internal stakeholders, shared service clients, and external suppliers
Contribute to process, policy, and operational improvements across the Finance function
Assist with Accounts Receivable processes as required
Undertake additional duties as directed by the Manager of Finance Operations
You are a proactive and detail‑driven finance professional who enjoys working collaboratively. You bring strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
You will also bring:
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
Minimum 3+ years in a similar role
Demonstrated experience in Accounts Payable and financial administration
Experience working in a complex or multi‑entity environment (Not‑for‑Profit experience highly regarded)
Strong systems experience, ideally with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and/or Power BI
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders
Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organisational capability
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
High level of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism
Preparedness to work within the ethos and polity of the Uniting Church in Australia
