Job summary

Torres Strait Regional Council (TSIRC) is seeking a Finance Officer based in Cairns or the Torres Strait region. The role supports accounting and finance functions, focusing on accounts payable, accounts receivable, and procurement.

A National Police Certificate may be required on commencement. The successful candidate will process financial transactions, reconcile accounts, prepare reports, and assist with projects while upholding TSIRC values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage and

Qualifications

• 1-3 years' experience in a similar role in a large multi-disciplinary organisation.
• Experience in payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.
• Certificate III level qualifications in Business Administration or related finance/accounting.
• Experience in using Technology One or other ERP software.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Torres Strait Islander people with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Process financial transactions and complete reconciliations.
• Assist with preparing reports and managing procurement tasks.
• Handle Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and related procurement activities.
• Support other teams during peak periods.
• Contribute to various accounting and finance projects as required.

About the role:

Reporting to the Financial Operations Accountant, this position provides essential support to the accounting and finance functions through the accurate and timely completion of transactional and administrative tasks. The role involves processing financial transactions, completing reconciliations, preparing reports, and assisting with specific projects as required.

The primary focus areas of the role are Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Procurement, with opportunities to support other teams during peak periods.

What we're looking for:

• 1-3 years' demonstrated experience in a similar role in a large multi-disciplinary organisation.
• Demonstrated experience in finance or accounting support roles, with exposure to payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.
• Certificate III level qualifications in Business Administration or related finance/accounting discipline.
• Experience in using complex software such a Technology One or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting Torres Strait Islander people together with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively.

Other Requirement

• The preferred applicant will require a National Police Certificate upon commencement.
