Job summary

BDO Australia is seeking a highly motivated Finance Manager to lead the financial accounting team and shape governance across close and reporting processes. You will own the monthly close, statutory reporting, and financial governance, ensuring accuracy and timely insights for senior stakeholders.

The role requires CA/CPA with 5+ years in financial accounting in a complex group, strong communication skills, and hands-on leadership to develop the team and drive improvements.

Qualifications

• CA/CPA qualified with at least 5 years in financial accounting.
• Experience leading month-end and year-end close for large/complex entities.
• Experience leading and developing a finance team.
• Experience with process improvement in month-end processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day activities of the financial accounting team.
• Prepare and analyse monthly financial statements and balance sheets.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and journals.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy and integrity.
• Oversee annual audit process and financial statement notes.
• Drive process improvement and leverage technology to improve efficiency.
• Oversee weekly cash flow analysis and general cash management.
• Ensure strong financial governance and controls.
• Mentor and develop the accounting team to deliver initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Financial Controller, CFO and wider Finance team on projects.

About the Role

We have an opportunity for a highly motivated Finance Manager to join our Finance Team at BDO. The Finance Manager will be responsible for leading the financial accounting team’s operations, including financial reporting and providing key insights and strategic direction to support business decision making. As a trusted adviser, you will ensure strong financial governance and compliance across the financial close and reporting processes, while collaborating with stakeholders to manage financial outcomes and expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Manage the day-to-day activities of the financial accounting team
• Prepare and analyse monthly financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets
• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, prepayments, journals and accruals
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy and integrity of the accounts
• Support the interim and annual audit process including overseeing the preparation of annual financial statements and notes.
• Lead process improvement and leverage technology to enhance efficiency and promote best practice
• Conduct weekly cash flow analysis and general cash flow management (e.g., sweeps)
• Identify and maintain key processes and controls to ensure strong financial governance and discipline
• Supervise and mentor a team of accountants, empowering them to deliver initiatives aligned with the Finance Strategy
• Maintain comprehensive documentation and records to adhere to BDO’s policies and procedures
• Work closely with the Financial Controller, the CFO and wider Finance team or business on relevant projects.

About You

• CA/ CPA qualified with at least 5 years of experience in a financial accounting role, ideally in a complex group environment
• Demonstrated experience in leading month-end and year-end close processes for a large or complex entity
• Demonstrated experience in process improvement, particularly in relation to month-end processes
• Experience with Workday is desirable
• Demonstrated experience in leading and developing a finance team
• Strong communication skills and experience liaising with senior stakeholders
• Driven, dynamic and adaptable with the ability to operate effectively in a changing environment
