Job summary

City of Stonnington is seeking a Finance Business Partner to work with managers across the organisation to provide insightful financial analysis, support informed decision-making, and enhance financial accountability. The role involves budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning to align resources with city priorities and community outcomes.

The successful candidate will have a tertiary accounting qualification with CPA/CA membership, strong Excel skills, and experience in finance

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in accounting is required, with CPA/ CA membership.
• Demonstrated experience in Finance Business Partnering functions in a local government or large complex organisation.
• Ability to explain complex and strategic financial concepts to stakeholders who may not have a financial background.
• Responsible for leading key projects, programs, or services with autonomy, ensuring alignment with objectives.
• Strong Excel and financial systems skills; TechnologyOne system experience preferred but not essential.
• Willing to work a minimum of three days per week from the office.
• Police check and Working with Children Check (WWC) required.

Responsibilities

• Partner with budget owners to understand service drivers and provide modelling and advice for sound decisions.
• Develop relationships with stakeholders to improve decision making and financial accountability.
• Support service areas with proactive engagement and practical financial solutions.
• Collaborate with team and stakeholders to achieve budgetary goals and Council priorities.
• Provide interpretation and training on internal financial reports.
• Assist business units with budgeting, forecasting, phasing, acquittals, financial analysis, reporting, reconciliations and journal adjustments.
• Coordinate development and monitoring of operating and capital budget per guidelines.
• Coordinate forecast review process and prepare monthly/quarterly Council reports highlighting material changes, risks and opportunities.
