Job summary

Public Sector People are partnering with a local government organisation to recruit a Finance Business Partner in Sydney Metro. You will lead budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting, delivering insights to support informed decision-making, and develop long‑term financial plans and models.

You will also advise on taxation compliance (GST/FBT) and asset governance, building strong stakeholder relationships across a multi‑service environment.

Qualifications

• Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
• Working towards or holding CPA/CA qualifications.
• Experience budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and analysis.
• Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and taxation requirements.
• Advanced Excel and financial systems expertise.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and advisory skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Hourly Pay Rate:
Contract: 5 months
Hours: 35 per week

Responsibilities:

• Partner with business units to provide strategic financial advice and support informed decision-making.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial performance reporting activities.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and analysis.
• Develop and maintain long-term financial plans and financial models.
• Provide expert advice on financial management, taxation compliance, GST and FBT obligations.
• Support asset accounting, fixed asset management and financial governance processes.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across a diverse operational environment.
• Assist with the administration, development and training of corporate finance systems.

Essential:

• Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Working towards or holding CPA/CA qualifications.
• Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and analysis.
• Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and taxation requirements.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience working with financial management systems.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and advisory skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within strict deadlines.

Desirable:

• Experience working within local government or a complex multi-service organisation.
• Experience with enterprise finance systems such as Finance One, MagiQ or similar platforms.
