Mott MacDonald in Adelaide seeks a Finance Advisor to join the APNA Financial Accounting team. You will support accurate accounting, timely reporting and governance for Australia & New Zealand, working with regional colleagues and the Shared Service Centre.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career finance professional who enjoys ownership, collaboration and process improvement. The role covers accounting operations, reconciliations, audits, tax compliance and continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance or pursuing relevant qualification.
  • Progress toward CA/CPA desirable.
  • 1-3 years' accounting, finance or audit support experience.
  • Experience in a professional service, consulting or corporate environment advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Financial Accountant in day-to-day activities across Australia and New Zealand entities.
  • Prepare journals and schedules for month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Support balance sheet reconciliations within Trintech.
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Assist with JV accounting, intercompany, tax compliance and related tasks.
  • Contribute to finance process improvements and ad hoc projects.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Finance Advisor to join our APNA Financial Accounting team in Adelaide, Australia. Working with colleagues across the region and our Shared Service Centre, you will support accurate accounting, timely reporting and effective financial governance for Australia & New Zealand.

This is an opportunity for a detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys taking ownership, collaborating with stakeholders and improving how work gets done.

As a Finance Advisor , you will support the Financial Accounting team in delivering accurate financial records, timely reporting and compliance across Australia and New Zealand. Working closely with the Financial Accounting team , Shared Service Centre and operational stakeholders, you will assist with accounting processes, reconciliations, audits, tax compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career finance professional looking to further develop their accounting knowledge while working towards a professional qualification.

What you'll be doing:
Accounting Operations
  • Assist the Senior Financial Accountant in the day-to-day accounting activities across Australia and New Zealand entities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Prepare journals and supporting schedules for month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Support the timely completion and certification of balance sheet reconciliations within Trintech.
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards and Mott MacDonald Group policies and procedures.
  • Assist with bookkeeping and financial administration tasks as required.
Joint Venture Administration
  • Manage joint venture accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, BAS/tax filings, filing of JV management account reports and preparation of MM Lead monthly management accounts.
Intercompany
  • Support monthly intercompany settlement activities and follow up on outstanding balances with internal stakeholders.
Audit Support
  • Assist Senior Financial Accountant with internal and external audits by preparing supporting documentation and responding to auditor requests.
  • Maintain organised audit files and ensure information is readily available for review.
Taxation Support
  • Assist in the preparation of GST, FBT, PAYE, NRWT and other indirect tax returns.
  • Support the maintenance of tax fixed asset registers, transfer pricing documentation, and annual tax compliance requirements.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for review by the Financial Accountant and Tax team.
Cashflow & Treasury Support
  • Assist with daily cash management activities, payment processing, and bank reconciliations.
  • Support the preparation of cashflow forecasts and annual budgeting information.
  • Investigate and assist in resolving accounts payable and vendor-related queries.
  • Follow up outstanding invoices, purchase orders, and aged payable items with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support payment processing activities and assist with urgent payment requests where required.
  • Assist with vendor onboarding and maintenance activities.
  • Follow established internal control procedures and contribute to maintaining a strong control environment.
  • Support annual control testing and documentation requirements, including the Financial Control Matrix.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Compliance
  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting regulations and ensure the company complies with all applicable standards and requirements.
Stakeholder Support
  • Provide financial information and administrative support to project teams, managers, and finance stakeholders.
  • Respond to finance-related queries in a timely and professional manner.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in finance projects, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in documenting and improving finance processes and procedures.
  • Undertake ad hoc finance tasks as directed by the Financial Accountant or Senior Financial Accountant.
What we're looking for-
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline, or currently completing a relevant qualification.
  • Progress towards a CA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • 1-3 years' experience in an accounting, finance or audit support role.
  • Experience in a professional service, consulting or corporate environment would be advantageous.
Technical Skills
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
