Job summary

Symal Group is seeking a trades-qualified Plant Mechanic to diagnose, service and repair plant and equipment across our project sites in Victoria. You will carry out pre-hire, on-hire and off-hire inspections, ensure machines are safe and compliant, and contribute to reduced downtime through effective fault finding.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as Plant/Diesel/Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
• Experience with construction plant and equipment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance for heavy plant and equipment.
• Current driver’s license; forklift/load-unload competencies appreciated.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service and repair plant and equipment per maintenance schedules and OEM requirements.
• Complete pre-hire, on-hire and off-hire inspections ensuring safety and compliance.
• Carry out post-service checks and sign-off for return to service.
• Identify root causes and warranty opportunities to improve fleet reliability and reduce downtime.
• Maintain accurate work orders, service reports and maintenance records.

Your everyday

• Diagnose, service and repair plant and equipment in line with preventative maintenance schedules and OEM requirements.
• Complete pre-hire, on-hire and off-hire inspections, ensuring machines are safe, compliant and ready for work.
• Carry out post-service and repair quality checks before signing equipment off for return to service.
• Identify repeat defects, warranty opportunities and root causes to support better fleet reliability and reduce downtime.
• Maintain accurate work orders, service reports and maintenance records while keeping workshop leaders informed of progress.
• Manage parts requirements ahead of scheduled works and ensure unused parts are returned and credited.
• Maintain high safety standards across all work, including isolation, lifting, working at heights and hot work activities.

Who are you?

• Trade qualified with previous experience as a Plant Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic working with construction plant and equipment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills with a focus on completing repairs correctly the first time.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance, servicing and repair requirements for heavy plant and equipment.
• A practical team player with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage changing workshop priorities.
• Current driver's licence, with forklift and load/unload competencies highly regarded.
