Job description

Join Roy Morgan and be part of a team conducting face-to-face interviews that capture the views, experiences and behaviours of Australians. As a Field Interviewer, you'll visit selected households in your local community, introduce yourself on behalf of Roy Morgan, and invite people to take part in important research.

This is a face-to-face field role involving door knocking and engaging with households that are generally not expecting your visit. Your ability to build rapport, communicate confidently and remain resilient will play a key role in your success.

Our Field Interviewers collect accurate, high-quality data that informs government, business and community decisions across the country.

What you'll do
  • Initiate conversation and engage with participants who are generally not expecting your visit and invite them to participate in impactful research
  • Build rapport quickly, manage refusals and objections professionally, and ensure informed consent
  • Conduct accurate, structured interviews on a wide range of topics using a tablet
  • Record observations, follow safety and privacy protocols, and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Plan your weekly schedule to meet agreed hours, including at least one weekend day

All interviews are conducted using Roy Morgan's secure systems. We provide full training, a clear field manual, and ongoing support from experienced field managers.

Who is best suited for this role
  • Comfortable with door knocking: You're confident approaching households that aren't expecting your visit and can quickly establish trust and credibility.
  • Resilient relationship-builder: You bounce back from a "no", stay friendly and professional, and approach the next household with the same energy.
  • Empathetic communicator: You listen well, handle sensitive topics with care, and adapt your communication style to suit different people and households.
  • Organised self-starter: You manage your time effectively, plan routes, keep accurate records, and work independently to achieve outcomes.
  • Tech-comfortable: You're confident using tablets and following on-screen scripts, procedures and protocols.

Nice-to-have: Experience in field interviewing, door-to-door outreach, customer service, hospitality, retail, community services, education, fundraising or call centre environments.

Why you should apply
  • Make every conversation count: The information you collect helps businesses, governments and community organisations better understand the experiences and needs of Australians.
  • Flexibility with structure: Choose your weekly schedule (with minimum hours) and work close to home where possible.
  • Training & support: We equip you with the skills, tools and guidance to succeed. No previous market research experience is required.
  • Professional standards: Be part of a respected organisation known for quality, accuracy and confidentiality.
Essentials
  • Availability of 20+ hours per week (including one weekend day; flexibility to add hours at peak times)
  • Current driver's licence and a reliable, registered vehicle
  • Fluent English (spoken and written) and the legal right to work in Australia
  • Willingness to obtain a National Police Check and Working with Children's Check (paid by Roy Morgan)
