Job summary

Bechtel in Australia is seeking a Civil/Structural engineer to conduct field investigations, develop work scope packages and support Superintendents for mining project civil/structural aspects.

You will review design documents, lead constructability reviews, and ensure compliance with codes, standards and project procedures. Requires a bachelor's degree and 6–10 years' experience, preferably with CPEng; incumbent will join Bechtel's diverse, global team.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 6–8 years of relevant experience or 8–10 years of relevant work experience (CPEng preferred).
• Experience in engineering of significant Civil or Mining projects in Australia.
• Strong knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures and the interaction with the other disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Plans and conducts independent Civil/Structural work on a medium-size project, applying engineering techniques and criteria.
• Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Civil/Structural components and processes.
• Reviews and approves design documents, supplier drawings, material specifications, drawings, change orders, and bid summaries.
• Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis (statics, dynamics, materials).
• Originates and checks complex Civil/Structural deliverables (steel/concrete calculations, specs, material requisitions).

Project Overview:

The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations, develop work scope packages and support Superintendents for a project’s civil/structural aspects. You will actively engage in constructability reviews of civil/structural elements and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.

Major Responsibilities:

• Plans and conducts independent Civil/Structural work requiring judgment in theevaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Civil/Structural engineeringtechniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment insupport of a global business unit




• Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Civil/Structural components andprocesses utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDP), designstandards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAP) and Standard Work Processes and Procedures (SWPP) and Design Review Notices(DRN)




• Reviews and approves key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, change orders, and bid summaries for the project to which assigned




• Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering




• Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements




• Originates and checks complex Civil/Structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions




• Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan inaccordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supportsimplementation and assists with performance reporting




• Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performancedata




• Leads field constructability reviews




• Completion of field testing, inspections, and processing of related construction engineering documentation. Documentation will include various soil test records, construction completion records, as built drawings and non-conformance reports




• Works with various functions to ensure the project achieves corporate goals set for environmental, safety & health, quality, cost, and schedule

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 6-8 years of relevant experience or 8-10 years of relevant work experience (CPEng preferred)




• Experience in engineering of significant Civil or Mining projects in Australia

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures and the interaction with the other disciplines




• Experience and proven ability to manage Civil engineering packages




• Preferred experience in Geotechnical Testing and Analytical practices or Structural Field Engineering




• Effective communication skills along with demonstrated supervision skills




• Solid planning and problem‑solving skills
