With over 90 standards and programs covering animal welfare, food production, livestock regulation and ESG supply chain, the organisation has helped shape the quality of the Australian food industry for 30 years.

As a non‑profit, AUS‑MEAT operates with integrity under ISO 9001:2015 and JAS‑ANZ/GFSI accreditation, providing services across all Australian states, territories and New Zealand.

Role Description

This work‑from‑home/mobile position allows you to work from home and attend client sites throughout Far North Queensland to deliver audit services for the following standards:

  • Freshcare (Food Safety & Quality, Supply Chain, Environmental)
  • HARPS

Expect significant travel, including interstate trips for training, conferences and rotation management—typically 4 out of 5, or 8 out of 10 days, at client sites supporting North Queensland growers.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Engage with growers and the wider community as a role model and AUS‑MEAT/AUS‑QUAL representative.
  • Conduct audit processes in line with programme, scheme and quality management standards.
  • Deliver thorough, finalised audit reports in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with head‑office technical support, administration services and scheduling teams, representing the business within the industry.

  • Adhere to Workplace Health and Safety policies, particularly Fatigue Management.
A Little About You

You are passionate about food safety and possess strong knowledge and experience within the horticulture industry and food safety compliance practices.

Requirements include a minimum of two years’ on‑farm experience—such as chemical use, water use, planting and harvesting—within horticulture production systems or food processing (plants or packing/pre‑processing of plant products). You must understand food safety processes from picking to packing.

Experience in quality assurance of food safety functions (QA, environmental or sustainability management systems) is desirable.

You should hold, or be prepared to obtain, a post‑secondary qualification (a bachelor’s degree is highly regarded) in the horticulture industry—for example, Food Science or a related field.

Certifications required or desirable:

  • Lead Food Safety Auditor
  • External HACCP (principles & applications)
  • Chemical User
  • Exemplar Global registered
  • Lead Auditor in Environmental Management Systems (ISO14001) – highly desirable
  • Freshcare training in Environmental (+Reef) – highly desirable

If you are missing any of these, we will assist you in attaining the necessary certificates.

You should be self‑motivated, organized and able to work autonomously with remote technical assistance. Proficiency in digital platforms and portals, clear professional writing, and comfort with typing reports or using electronic forms are required.

Strong interpersonal communication skills are essential for building professional relationships and delivering developmental feedback. A desire for continuous learning and effective time management is also important.

Qualifications
  • Experience in auditing, compliance assessment and quality assurance practices.
  • Knowledge of agricultural industries such as red meat, horticulture, food safety, or organics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, report preparation and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines and demonstrate organisational skills.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 or equivalent management systems and auditing protocols.
  • Registration with Exemplar Global (or equivalent) is advantageous.
  • Degree or vocational qualification in agriculture, food safety, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using technology and software for remote auditing and reporting.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel within assigned regions.
