Job summary

Mitolo Family Farms in South Australia is seeking dedicated individuals for permanent full-time roles as Farm Operator and Tractor Operator across the Riverland and Mallee regions. You''ll report to the Farm Manager and participate in all farming stages from ground prep to harvest.

Candidates with strong work ethic, interest in agriculture, and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractors and equipment for planting, cultivation, and harvesting potatoes.
• Inspect, sort, and grade potatoes.
• Assist with ground preparation including soil tilling and irrigation setup.
• Monitor crop health and manage pests and weeds.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
• Support harvesting and handle crops properly.
• Load, unload, and transport harvested crops to storage.
• Adhere to safety protocols and keep records of activities.
• Collaborate with farm team to meet production goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate tractors and other farming equipment for planting, cultivation, and harvesting of potatoes.


• Inspect, sort, and grade potatoes.


• Assist with ground preparation, including soil tilling, irrigation setup, and planting.


• Monitor crop health and assist in pest and weed management practices.


• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure optimal functionality.


• Support the harvesting process, including operating machinery and ensuring proper handling of crops.


• Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting harvested crops to storage or distribution sites.


• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations on the farm. Keep accurate records of farming activities, equipment usage, and crop yields.


• Collaborate with the farm team to meet production goals and maintain high-quality standards.

What We Are Looking For

• Proven experience operating tractors and farm machinery, preferably in potato farming or similar agricultural environments.


• Strong understanding of farming practices, including soil preparation, irrigation, and crop management.


• Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on farming equipment. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to monitor and maintain crop health.


• Physical fitness and stamina to work long hours in outdoor and varying weather conditions.


• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team. Commitment to safety and following all farm safety protocols and guidelines.


• A proactive attitude with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and tasks.

Previous experience in potato farming is advantageous but not required.

Chemical Handling Certificate and Forklift licence are essential or willing to acquire.
